Advantages: Packed with affordable fashion and sometimes has discount vouchers

Disadvantages: The more depressing articles can feel out of place in a fashion magazine

'Look' is a women's weekly magazine that is packed with fashion, celebrity gossip and articles about serious issues. It's priced at £1.50 and although I don't deliberately go out and buy it, I quite happily flick through the glossy pages when my sister happens to buy one.

'Look' is very good in the respect that it manages to strike the right balance between all its components. I find that some magazines are too obsessed about celebrity gossip, and others just contain such ridiculously expensive clothing photographed so artistically that it's hard to distinguish the many adverts from actual content! However, 'Look' focuses primarily on the fashion side of things-and the fashion it includes is actually affordable and comes with useful information as to where and when to buy it. It is so nice to be able to see something in a magazine and then be able to go out and buy it on the highstreet. Sometimes there are even discount vouchers included (e.g. 20% off at Oasis).

The celebrity gossip that is written about is just the right amount to be vaguely interesting, but not so much that you feel like you're spying on the person! The articles can sometimes seem a little out of place when you've just read about this weeks new trends and turn over to be confronted by a double spread on the problem of female alcoholics in Russia. But sometimes it's nice to have a bit of variety in a magazine I suppose.

Overall 'Look' is a nice bit of light relief in the week and its strong focus on fashion is definitely one of its advantages.

Summary: A nice quick read that can be quite useful at times
