Advantages: cheap

Disadvantages: lots of sad stories

Love It is a weekly magazine that focuses on real life and celebrity stories. I buy it for my wife (honest) but more often that not end up reading it myself when I've finished the paper.

The magazine jumps out at me because of the price: at just 68p it's a real bargain for a 60 page mag. Some similar titles cost £2 or so, so this one always makes sense to buy. The pages are all glossy, too, so the quality is high.

Like all of these mags, the front cover is strewn with such eye catching titles as 'dumped after I chopped off my willy'. The emphasis is either on sensationalist true life stories or weight/fashion/make-up focused celebrity. I personally think the cost is so low as the celeb element is a lot smaller to bring costs down. There tends to be just one or two stories focusing on celebrity, and the rest are from the public.

Around 12 pages tend to be adverts, which is a lot less than some mags, so again there's good value in that.

Trisha Goddard has her own agony aunt page, right opposite the essential 'sex confidential', which is a staple part of any trashy mag.

There are often recipes, which give simple ideas on tasty food, and a puzzle section which includes crosswords, wordsearches and sudoko. Whilst these are never exactly challenging enough to cause problems for the discerning Times reader, they're still a bit of fun. The clues tend to revolve around celebrity, though, so if you don't follow them in the press, you may find it tough.

My only problem with this mag is the 'negative' content, such as sad stories about losing a baby or a husband. I struggle with why we so much enjoy reading these tragic tales (I certainly don't), and I guess the recent Jade circus is a perfect example of this.

A feel good mag this is not, with the emphasis on sad true stories and trying to make you want to become thinner / more glamorous, but if this sort of thing takes your fancy, then for 68p this is the mag to get.

Summary: buy it
