Advantages: Not too intellectual
Disadvantages: A bit bizarre
My hubby and I have got into the routine of buying a magazine or paper at the weekend. I hate the thought of spending too much on a piece of paper that will end up in the bin by the end of the day so thats why I chose 'Love it'. It cost me 68p and and consists of around 70 pages so not bad.
The front page is very bright with lots of big captions in yellow and pink so it's pretty appealing to the eye. I did find that it jumped out at me when I was scanning the hundreds of magazines on the shelf.
The magazine mostly consists of bizarre stories that I couldn't even dream up like 'Jailed because my baby had cancer'. Most of the stories are real life occurances although I do wonder how real some of them are because they seem so 'Off the planet'. There is a small section on a few celebrities which suits me because I am not particularly bothered about whethe Jordon has been out for a run this week or if Cheryl and Ashley are getting married.
There is a really good page on different recipes which you can cut out and stick in a book. Most of them are very basic and easy so I tend to use some of them. I hate it when you look at a food picture and then realise the recipe is pretty much impossible or you need so many ingredients that it costs a bomb.
Like most magazines there are a few pages on our everyday problems. The popular Trisha Goddard is one of their agony aunts along with Alex Karidis (surgeon to the stars) who answers questions on surgery. I know this sounds really awful but when I read these pages I almost always end up smiling or laughing. I just can't take some of the so-called 'Problems' seriously. I think sometimes people are just having a laugh.
There is a page on 'Hints and tips' which can be quite useful although some of the tips are absolutely bizarre. For instance this week a person sent in a photo of the ugliest bag I have ever seen and recommended using an old canvas pouch and mens tie to make yourself a bag and she got paid £60 fr it.
There are a fair few pages on fashion, advertising and all the other junk that comes along with most magazines but it's not too overloaded and I'd don't feel like I getting ripped off because there is more stories in this mag than anything.
I find that this magazine is a good read for me. The stories are sometimes questionable but I like the fact that it doesn't take much intellect to read them and 'Get them'. I'm a full time mum so when I sit down to chill the last thing I want is a big long intellectual book that I can't get to grips with. For a start my mind is so dead from talking 'Baby' all day, I'm pretty shattered so haven't got the brain power to take much in and I findthat if I start a big book, by the time I pick it up again I've forgotton what I've read so this magazine is just 'Up my street'.
The only other thing I would say is the magazine is a bit of 'Doom and gloom'. What is about us people that like to read about people's misfortune? Anyway I like to read anything about abuse or bad times for some reason so I quite like reading these stories and sheding a few tears but it may not be your cup of tea.
Summary: A nice afternoon read.

- 31/03/09 Cheryl and Ashley have been married for ages, although you're half right as they'll probably be divorced soon enough! Great review! |

- 31/03/09 I think we as humans somehow perversely enjoy other peoples misfortunes. Bad news sells! |
