Advantages: It's funny

Disadvantages: No immediately come to mind

Well I aren't one of those people who buys football magazines every week - because to be quite honest I can find better things to do with my money. I do though buy my annual copy when I go on holiday because it's something to read on that long trip.

So this year I walked into my newsagents and looked along the shelf to the regular - Shoot, Match etc untill my eyes came across MotD magazine September 2000 edition. My initial thought was it would be very similar to all the others but it was thicker than both Shoot and Match and so decided I would try it out, so for £2.50 I bought MotD and was itching to look at it. So just minutes into my long bus ride to the South of France I picked it up and began to read it. My first opinion was that it looked a bit boring and so read just a select few of the interviews and other sections. I thought it was great and began to read more of it and before long I had read the whole thing ALL 130 pages.

One thing I really liked about this magazine was that it made me laugh yet gave me plenty of information about whats going on in the world of football. They have put in original section like Mission impossible in which Spencer Vignes in the September 2000 edition has the task of launching a bid for Carlisle football club. There is also some great names for sections like "Jimmy Hill's chinwag". The fact that it is funny is what made it for me above Shoot and Match, it is certainly more of a grown-ups/teenager football magazine and not as much aimed at young children like Shoot and Match.

So overall I think that at the moment MotD is at the top of my list for the football magazine I will read next year going to my holiday destination, unless something else comes out before next year.
