... fair to the magazine it does still feature older bands such as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden alongside modern-day pretenders such as Trivium, Slipknot and Linkin Park, and it even features a 'subterranean' section which reports on the odd proper death/black/doom metal band and is clearly designed to cultivate young fans into Terrorizer readers, but on the whole the magazine still has a very juvanile and cringeworthy feel to it, feeling more like a comic book than a serious music magazine and clearly aimed at a demograph...more

Premium Review Metal Hammer: Lousy, but still better than Kerrang (293 words)
by - written on 21/11/09 (Very useful, 8 readings)
Rating:

Much like Kerrang magazine, Metal Hammer began its life as an endearing and reliable rock/metal music magazine, albeit one that was monthly rather than fortnightly as is the case with Kerrang, but as with Kerrang it underwent a dramatic format change in the late 90s whereby it largely abandoned its older audience in favour of a newer, younger demographic in the form of the up-and-coming wave of new fans cultivated by the emergence of nu metal and metalcore. To be fair to the magazine it does still feature older bands such as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden alongside modern-day pretenders such as Trivium, Slipknot and Linkin Park, and it even features a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Metal Hammer: An excellent metal music magazine (356 words)
by - written on 19/06/09 (Very useful, 70 readings)
Rating:

I bought my first copy of Metal Hammer several years ago now, I had become rather disillusioned with Kerrang as it covered very little of the sort of music I actually liked and at the time magazines like Terrorizer were still a fair bit more extreme than my taste in metal. Wandering in to Virgin one day (as it still was at the time), Metal Hammer immediately caught my eye, as on the cover were the singers of two of my favourite bands at the time and well, I just had to give it a read. Opening it up, I found a whole array of articles, on numerous bands I had an interest in. There was far more content in it than it's weekly rival, which was to be expected, but ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Metal Hammer (252 words)

Rating:

Metal Hammer is a magazine about Rock/Metal music. The first issue was for sale in 1986. I would say that it is aimed at older teenagers and adults because of the language used in it. It is available monthly and costs £3.99. Some months they add an extra item with the magazine and charge an extra pound or you can buy it at the normal price without the item. Examples of the extras they add are a festival survival kit or a metal sleeve. Each magazine comes with a free CD and sometimes stickers/sticker book or a badge. There are around 130 pages inside the magazine including band features, live music reviews, album reviews, readers letters, ...  Read the complete review

Metal Hammer: Kerrang Deluxe (733 words)
by - written on 17/06/01
Rating:

"Metal Hammer" is the monthly source of reference for fans of a wide range of music, ranging from punk and old rock to death metal and black metal. Although it is obviously less up to date than the weekly "Kerrang!" magazine, its interviews and features are always more detailed and better presented, giving it the overall look of being more sophisticated and cared about than the seemingly budget Kerrang! It always has a free gift every month as well, which makes the magazine well worth the price of £3.10, as well as its glossy cover and (around) 114 pages. The gift is usually a CD containing great tunes from most of the bands discussed and ...  Read the complete review
