Advantages: Loads of bands, free stuff
Disadvantages: That it is only monthly!
Metal Hammer is a monthly magazine priced at £3.99 and covers a wide range of bands in the metal genre. Some popular bands frequently covered include:
Slipknot
Korn
Children of Bodom
Machine Head
Iron Maiden
Metallica
Plus many many more....
You can get this on subscription and usually save yourself around 35% compared to buying it every month in the shops. You can also get free gifts when you subscribe on MH website or send off by post through the mag itself. On my last subscription i got 4 or 5 Nightwish CD's.
~ About Metal Hammer ~
Every month you get at least a free CD with the magazine and most other months, other things are also included, for example, posters, DVD's, stickers and sticker books. You very often get two free CD's and if you are into the heavier kind of music, it is a great way to grow your music collection and discover new bands. There are competitions every month and many reviews on the latest albums, live shows and bands. Other regular features include interviews, previews and a small magazine which is within MH telling you all about the latest unsigned bands. MH always does end of year reviews of all the best bands and albums and other events like looking ahead into the new year at which bands are the ones too look out for. It is a great source of information on gig's and concerts if you want to find out when and where your favourite band are playing next.
~ Overall ~
I have been getting this magazine for around three years now and it is still refreshing to read when compared to other music magazines thanks to their ballsy approach and their writing style. It is fun to read and I am proud to be a defender of the faith! (that is kind of their motto)
If you like heavy metal or just want to discover some new and exciting bands, then be sure to pick up your copy now!
Summary: Very good magazine, fun to read and entertaining
