Advantages: A good long read, good pricing, interesting articles, some great cover gifts

Disadvantages: Monthly (so the news dates quickly), some of the layout is bewildering, and some of the articles are just plain boring

For those about to rock, you might like to check this out before you check out what you'd like to rock to! Basically, like it's name-sake; Metal Hammer is a magazine about the latest metal news, reviews, gigs, gossip, interviews, freebies (like cover CD's) and anything you'd care to think of. And it's not just about metal, it encompasses all forms of hard and somewhat hard rock, but Hard Rock Hammer doesn't sound that good does it?
Metal Hammer is a glossy monthly magazine, and even has it's own website at metallhammer.co.uk, so you're never too far from the important latest features online, but unlike it's non-webbed rival, Kerrang! which is weekly, you'll find that Metal Hammer's news becomes dated, and that is a shame. Although it is a satisfingly long read for about atleast a fortnight, has quite a good price (I can't remember what, as I haven't read it for a while, but it's around £3).
Some of the articles are too long and boring and the layout can occasionally be bewildering, but apart from that it's still good, and the only serious alternative hard rock mag to Kerrang!, and is a little more serious and more honest in times than Kerrang! Kerrang!'s the best, no contest, but this is it's close second.
If Kerrang! is The Sun for hard rockers then Metal Hammer is probably The Times. Both are must reads however, but everyone has their own preference; I like K! for it being weekly with everything, even occasional dud stories, while MH will satisfy the concise and more serious monthly reader.
