Advantages: Claire Allfree's reviews

Disadvantages: I get up too late to get a copy

I don't usually get to the tube until just before 9.00 by which time all the Metros have gone, so I'm one of those people who pounce on discarded ones!
It's ideal for a 20-30 minute journey, has a lot of internet-related stories, well-written music reviews by Claire Allfree, and it means I haven't had to buy a gormless tabloid for over a year. (You can't read broadsheets on a packed tube train, unless you're skilled in origami or an arrogant sociopath.)
They've mastered the art of appearing politically neutral whilst avoiding editorial blandness. The quickie interviews are fun, there's lots of colour, and if it's damaging the sales of the reactionary old Evening Standard, then full marks to them.

It's published by Associated Newspapers who publish the Standard and the Daily Mail, so I don't think it's meant to be a direct competitor. You'll always see adverts for the Standard and Mail in it, but it is a good, free read! I'll remember to leave mine on the seat for the next latecomer!
