Advantages: some national news & a good deal of local news plus a bit of gossip etc

Disadvantages: none really - after all it's free!

I look forward to my 20 minute bus ride every Friday as it's just enough time for me to have a good look through the Metro newspaper which is free & there are always some available for passengers to help themselves.

Apparently the Metro is read by about 3 million people up & down the country - whether or not this is because it's free or because of the content I obviously can't say - but I know I enjoy reading it.

The first thing I normally do in the mornings is to switch my radio on so I can get the latest news - I listen to Radio 4's 'Today' programme as I like to hear up-to-date news & interviews. I rarely buy a newspaper these days because they date so quickly & I don't have the time to read a 'meaty' one but I wouldn't rely on the Metro for obtaining 'fresh' news.

Our nearest city is Manchester so jobs (although some national) tend to be around the north west as are local events, cinema listings & entertainment.

I'm not really a sports fan but I've noticed a lot of passengers go straight to these 2 or 3 pages pages first - it looks informative but I'm no expert.

As well as national news there's usually something relevant & interesting re: our area plus (ever increasing) numbers of houses & businesses for sale, bankruptcy notices & local government plans or proposals, readers' letters & comments etc.

There's usually a bit of celeb gossip & a horoscope part (I can never resist having a look) & a very good TV guide which often has informative articles about current affairs programmes or the latest soap storylines.

I read the local weather forecast which is normally fairly accurate - in fact the only pages I don't look at are the financial ones because I don't have any shares & the FE or FTSE don't make any sense to me I'm afraid but I believe these are popular with many commuters.

summary
~
- wouldn't rely on it for all my main up-to-date national news.
- an interesting & informative free daily newspaper (Mon - Fri) which rarely disappoints.

Summary: a good little newspaper which helps pass the time

Well that is normal nixtee. If you get any product for free for a long time time and then someone wants to charge you for it of course they would say no.

There was a news item on TV the other day and they were asking people if they'd consider paying for the Metro newspaper and most of them said no!

I think it is quite good considering it is free!
