Advantages: free, informative, staples!

Disadvantages: bit light on the news

I've become a Metro-addict. I find that I
actually become quite stroppy on the days I
can't find a copy in the morning.

It's not just me, either - I'm one of only a
handful of people that commute to the office,
and when I bring a copy in, it's pounced on.

The news is very 'magazine'-style. It seems to
try hard not to be scandalous. Which is fine
by me - I can make up my own mind on the stories,
thanks all the same. The articles tend to be
a little frivolous, but the "what's on" guide
is spot on. Sports coverage is probably a lot
better if you support a team that plays in the
area you live in. (I can now recite more facts
about the London football clubs than my own)

And best of all? Staples! Why on earth don't
other papers use them? No more flapping pages
falling out and blowing all over the tube.
Hurrah!

(Now where's today's copy, to check if I've
won 50 quid by being photographed coming out
of a tube station ... ?)

Hmmm - I worry about Metro. Sure it's free. Sure it's an easy read first thing in the morning. But it's disturbing that everyone gets the same opinion washing over them on the way to work. Where's the variety? You get on the platform on the Underground and everyone has their head buried in a Metro. It used to be a sea of Suns, Mirrors, Guardians, Times, Independents etc. Now it's all bland Metro. Is it a symptom of the UK population's general apathy towards politics? Or is it bolstering it?

It's owned by the Daily Mail as well - which can't be a good thing.

And the cartoons in it are RUBBISH.

Plus it's very bad news for all the local news vendors at tube stations. They're really feeling the squeeze.

Yep, Glasgow has the METRO now and I am going to do a opinion on it, or I was until I read yours, - no way I'll match yours though! It really is good and it's probably better than any of the local 'Pay-For' papers! GG

I've only seen Metro a few times living here in Cambridge and only occasionally getting to London but I totally agree it's a great newspaper
