Advantages: The informal, more accessible chatty style of the writing - totally different from Elle or Marie Claire
Disadvantages: Not enough actual writing, too many pictures.
Minx magazine appears to be, at first glance, very similar to magazine but the main difference between the two when you read them more carefully, is that Minx appears to have a distinct lack of articles compared to B. While the interview with Kylie discloses details of her past that prove fairly interesting, the interview is by now means ground-breaking. Other articles include ‘8 questions you always wanted to ask your boyfriend’s ex (but didn’t dare)’ which is also entertaining enough to keep your attention on the bus to work but is not the sort of writing that would have you flicking frantically through the magazine to read it. The main problem with this magazine is that it touts articles with enticing, eye-catching headings, although the articles themselves don’t live up to their promise. For example, on the cover, Minx states how to ‘kick your overdraft into touch’, although upon reading the corresponding article, I was extremely disappointed to discover it was just full pages of pictures with a small paragraph of text on each page. This use of pictures to pad-out articles can also be seen throughout the fashion, and especially the beauty section, where the amount of information actually given is pitiful. Minx claims to provide information on ‘life, love and everything’ and it obviously tries to accomplish this but it only manages to scratch the surface.
