Advantages: great features, funny, chatty, fab fashion and beauty
Disadvantages: could be a little thicker
With soooooo many magazines available today, it's tricky knowing which one to buy. Some of my favourites include Reveal, Closer, Heat, Star, New....etc etc. So when an issue of More suddenly enticed me I thought I'd give it a go. At £1.30, it was pretty much the same price as the others, and didn't seem unreasonable. It's available at all of the supermarkets and most newsagents, and is weekly. The front cover generally displays fashion, shocking real-life story headlines and a female celebrity in the centre. It's fabulously glossy, and although not overly thick, it doesn't have that many adverts and I personally wouldn't feel short-changed with the content.
The magazine is split into different sections; the first one is the week's 'Big Questions'. I find these really amusing, and they answer qusetions relevant to topics in the media at the time; nothing political or newsworhty, just fun items such as 'Is this the tackiest Hollyoaks wedding ever?'. There's lots of photographs I haven't seen before - you know some magazines seem to print the same old photos again and again. I love the way the articles are written too; it's like it's written by one of your friends, who happens to be a really great writer. The 'Big Questions' cover up to around page 20, usually with 10 questions.
Another section is 'Fashion'. This begins with a page entitled 'Style School' ; a fashion column by Scott Henshall (I think he was on I'm a Celeb...). This page covers the major, hot new trends, whether that be checks or leopard print. The page features photographs of celebs sporting the latest trends, and a handy 'Here's how to Get the Look' column. The hints are helpful and useful to read before going shopping; 'Don't mix your prints'. You've been told! They also follow a celeb's style for 7 days, and show how you can get the look too. Most of the fashion is affordable, which I think is great. I sometimes find magazines like 'Look' have far too many expensive items in. The fashion is high-street, from shops such as New Look, Miss Selfridge, Topshop and Dorothy Perkins. All my favourite places! To be honest, I'd potentially buy 90% of the items they print in the magazine (if my budget stretched that far).
More's beauty section is good, again with a column featuring top new products. Persoanlly, I'd like to see some of those 'Get the Look' features. I always like to know how to be made up like the stars, even if I've no hope of looking like one! There's also a fitness column, with reader Q&A, and top diet and exercise tips. It looks helpful, but I myself can't be bothered with the whole 'which soup has fewer calories' debate. Every week there is a 'Sex Clinic', letters, puzzles and horoscopes.
I think the mag is fantastic, but be aware there's not loads to read. If you enjoy wordy mags like Closer, you may find this a bit...sparse. But then, I enjoy both. 'More' is fun and chatty, with great fashion, celeb interviews and other features. I think if you buy it, you'll find some fashion or beauty item you like, so I find it value for money, as it may lead you to buying a fab new dress or pair of shoes.
Summary: This mag and the hilarious captions made me laugh out loud. Really fun and great features
