Advantages: Fun and easy to read magazine

Disadvantages: There may be people too young for the content reading it

More magazine is one of my favourite magazines. I think I am probably getting towards being too old for it, but I do find it an enjoyable read. I do read a lot of magazines and am lucky enough in my line of work to get quite a few for free.

More is a weekly magazine (used to be fortnightly) and comes out every Tuesday. The price of the magazine does seem to vary but the latest edition I have is £1.40. I find More a bit of a mix between the celebrity gossip magazines and the more glossy titles such as Glamour and Cosmo. I think this mix is why I find it quite an enjoyable read overall. The magazine is probably also between these two types of magazines in terms of the thickness of the magazine as well. I think there is more content than some of the celeb magazines but it is a lot thinner than Cosmo and Glamour. I
think this may be due to the fact that it has a lot less adverts as well.

The front of the magazine is attractive and immediately attracts you towards the magazine. It had More! written in big letters at the top in brightly coloured writing. There is also a large picture on the front, this is normally a celebrity. This makes it look quite glamorous as unlike celebrity gossip magazines the celebrity usually looks like they have been made up rather than looking bad. There are usually some short headlines of what the articles inside are about. These are usually a mix of articles, celebrity news and also fashion. There is lots of big writing all over the front and this all co-ordinates so overall the magazine does look very attractive.

Once inside the magazine there is the usual editor letter and the contents page. This is quite clearly laid out with pictures with page numbers written on them. There are also headlines for some of the other articles. This is split into sections so you can easily find what you are interested in. These sections are: On the cover, celebs, fashion and beauty, men and relationships and every week. This contents page goes over two pages. I think it is very clear but i don't usually find the need to use it as I usually just flick through the magazine.

As with all magazines there are quite a few adverts throughout the magazine. I don't really find these too irritating though and when you flick through magazines you are used to just flicking past these. The adverts aren't quite as high end as some other magazines so you can see what type of magazine it is.

The first part of the magazine usually has a lot of celebrity news stories. This includes interviews with celebrities, couples close up on their body language, celebrity news stories and celebrity fashion. there are also a few other non celebrity fashion bits included in this section. A lot of the sections are the same each week. An example is the celebrity couples close up. This article looks up various celebrity couples and what their body language is like towards each other. This article is in each issue of the magazine but just with different celebrities. This using the same style each time does mean that it is easy to go and find the sections that are your favourite easily. Also in the celebrity section they have an interview that Alan Carr does with a celebrity each week. If you don't already know Alan Carr is a comedian that has been on various shows on channel 4 as well as doing his own stand up tour. His interview is usually quite funny to read and a bit different to your usual celebrity interview.

The next section of the magazine is about men. This has various parts including men facts, why do men article, sex tips and articles about what men get up to. This is usually quite a funny section as is obviously aimed at trying to understand men's minds. I don't think it is really that insightful but can be amusing. The facts can be quite interesting.

The fashion section has lots of different clothes and accessories for you to look. It tells you where you can get all the items from and for how much so if you see something you fancy buying you can find out where from. What I do like about More magazine is that they have clothes that are within my budget. I read Glamour magazine regularly and there is no way I could afford most of the clothes in there. More seems to cater for people with more of an average budget. There are usually themes with the clothes such as at Christmas party outfits, or in the summer wedding outfits. The clothes are also not outrageous like some magazines so I usually do see things that I would actually be interested in purchasing. Some magazines show clothes that I don't think any normal person would wear.

The beauty section shows lots of beauty products that you can buy. As with the fashion section these are usually at a reasonable price if you wanted to purchase. They also rate a lot of the products so you can see if they are any good and worth buying or not. They also usually have tips on how to apply make up or fake tan or something similar. These could be quite useful if you were unsure or wanted some new tips. I don't really usually read these sections that much.

The problem pages in this magazine are quite interesting. I don't know if I am just nosy or what but I do love a problem page. The problems are based around a number of areas including life, blokes, health, body etc. These are all answered by experts in each of the fields. Towards the back along with the problem pages are also the horoscopes and the letters pages. I also really enjoy these pages. I know horoscopes are not true but I can't help but read mine every time I see it. I like the letters page as well , especially as some of the letters are quite funny.

One of my favourite pages has got to be the last page of the magazine. This is the men overheard page. This has various quotes that women have heard men saying. These can be really funny and we used to all sit and have a good laugh at these when we were at uni. I also seem to find myself noting down quotes when I hear men saying something funny. I know women also do say some pretty stupid things but this page really is funny.

The magazine is very bright and clear all the way through. It is quite simple and obviously not trying to be really intellectual. This is what I like about it though as it is just an enjoyable and easy read for when you are having some free time to yourself. There are a lot of images and the text isn't too heavy, which again is nice and it doesn't take long to read the magazine.

The magazine is obviously aimed at people in their late teens and early twenties due to the content. Especially with a lot of articles about relationships and sex tips as well. I have been reading this magazine for quite a few years though, probably since I was still at school. The way it is all bright and easy to read probably makes it attractive to a younger audience than the one they are aiming at. I don't think it is entirely good that young teenagers would read a magazine with sex tips but I think most are mature enough to make their own decisions.

Overall I think More magazine is a great easy read. It is good value for money and very entertaining.

Summary: An enjoyable read that is value for money

Strange how all the girls used to giggle over the position of the fortnight and all the boys used to dream about it. Lol. Great review.
