Advantages: Everything it's a great read
Disadvantages: Nothing for me!
Every Friday afternoon at about 3pm I literally run to the gym. Not just because I enjoy it (I do actually for the most of the time lol) but I don't know why but one of the male members always brings about 30 copies of More with him which are free for you to take home (if you get in there fast enough). Like I say I don't know why he does it or where he gets them but every week there they are and me...well I love to park mine on the cross trainer for half an hour and whittle my time away with a glossy!
The Magazine:
Well out of all the glossy magazines on the market this happens to be one of my firm favourites. Out every week it always has interesting celebrity interviews and a great mix of other stuff going on it in and I feel this is aimed at mid 20's to late 30's women!
Contents:
Of course they vary but with More, week after week it is pretty much all the same sort of format and very nicely laid out. That isn't a gripe or complaint with More you know what your getting and if you pick up one issue and have a good old nosey through it and like it then the chances are you will enjoy all future issues.
The front cover always in big bold lettering tells you what the magazine is and the price which is currently £1.40. Obviously the cover is different as are the contents week by week but usually it's a celebrity adorning the cover (this week it's the fabulous Lady Gaga!) and then there a quick run down of some of whats on offer in the magazine which usually offers best buys and fashion advice to grab your attention lol. Open it up and the editor (Lisa Smosarski) gives her take on the week and there is a content list that is very comprehensive.
So where do I start?
Adverts: This I appreciate about this magazine greatly. I'm not made of money but I am fashion conscious and I do like the latest looks and to keep myself up to date. With this magazine the things advertised is stuff like Adidas, Rimmel, 02 and somewhat achievable things to own. One advert in this magazine is for a boohoo.com shows a gorgeous dress for 25 quid! It's all about grabbing looks for reasonable prices this magazine so I'm on the treadmill burning off half a ton lard and trying to mould my lard ass into buns of steel thinking 25 quid? I'm having that lol. It just makes a nice change in these financially struggling times to know stuff is achievable to get I think! What's more the mag doesn't dedicate too much space to adverts and tends to advertise products within articles...read on lol.
Fashion:
Again nothing shown is mega expensive. In all of the weekly editions fashion really does play a huge role. There is always a bargain section where the team tell us what is hot and whats not and where to get so and so in. A top from Primark for £12.00 is big news, a belt from Asda for £4.00 is a must have that type of thing. Celebs are photographed in whats hot and not and sometimes advice on how to pinch a look is given and what's coming up on the fashion front we should all be investing in (at the moment it's animal faces on t shirts), again the tops shown range from £10.00 to the most expensive one being £25.00 and are from accessible shops such as Dorothy Perkins, Matalan, Top Shop and River Island. Another weekly feature is the magazine parks itself up with a photographer outside a shop with a tippee and waits for women to come out with their shopping bags. They ask them to change into what they've just bought and they get photographed before and after and asked a couple of questions about why they chose what they purchased. This again takes place at the likes of outside Primark, New Look and River Island. There is also an editors choice of buy of the week. I've noticed Asos feature highly here and although I've never visited their website it has to be said some of the stuff is lovely!
There is always themed pieces of what we should buying as well (this week its nautical pieces) and articles on how to create a look for under 30 quid! There are further articles and fashion advice in this magazine on where to buy the perfect bright jacket, slogan tops (these are must haves apparently), where to find the best lace up shoes and long sleeve dresses oh and tailored trousers (yep you guessed it again these are must haves lol), high street beauty buys get rated, make up advice and haircare is usually given so you get the picture lots of info on fashion!
Men:
Sex position of the week, how to catch and keep a man, how to propose, problem pages and sexual advice are all in here (contents vary lol). Real life stories, stories about male celebrities (usually wearing very little but a smile) it's chocka block full of information about men, by men and women who love men lol.
Celebs:
Who's boffing who, who is hot, who is not, who's wearing what. Usually there is a couple of celebrity interviews and again what I appreciate with more is that it isn't full of boring old z listers! I like the well laid interviews and photographs and the way that you get the feeling that the interviews were fun and light hearted and it's emulated in the photographs. Who's is splitting up who is getting with who and why you know the formula lol.
Real Life:
Not too much of this as it's quite a light hearted magazine but from time to time More does give stories that shock. The one in this week is about an attractive woman who was so jealous of her bf's ex she shelled out thousands of pounds to look like her. Sorry but funny thing about it, is the girl was prettier than his ex to begin with and he had upgraded lol. What a waste of looks I say!
Then there is the usual stars in there, discount vouchers, gift ideas, and magazine letters and stuff like that.
Verdict:
A magazine that really does deliver me an affordable fashion fix weekly for a worthy mere price of £1.40 (if I had to buy it lol). I get really down looking in a magazine and seeing something I like and seeing its price tag and thinking I'll never afford that! With this I can. I find the make up advice easy to follow and have even done a couple of the hairstyles! lol.
What I also appreciate with this magazine is the models used in articles. Out are the ill stick insect skinny minny brigade and in are healthy looking average sized models. Very rarely is there diet and fitness information and a whole heap of focus on weight. For someone like me with an eating disorder I notice these things and appreciate it all not being in my face and the magazine being upbeat!
I find the celebrity stories up to date and sometimes exclusive and all round it's a jam packed magazine that is fun to read though I will say this.... the stars are never right for me! lol
Try it!
Summary: Cheap for what it is!
