Advantages: Variation of articles/ advice
Disadvantages: none!
I first bought Mother & Baby magazine when I was pregnant and expecting my first daughter. With this being my first obviously I was very nervous, scared, excited. I had no other friends who were pregnant and I felt as if I had nobody too relate my symtoms to.
Thats when I went ahead and tried too find a magazine. There were many different ones on the shelf but the one that stood out most was 'Mother & Baby'. It was bright and colourful, Looked quite a thick mag, Free gift on the front and was only £2.60 which I thought was a bargain!
On the contents page of the magazine it gives a clear range of subheadings eg. Club mama, Health, Pregnancy, Features, Shopping and Regulars. Under each of the subheadings are the page numbers with different headings. I found this really easy too find what page your looking for which is a plus as I hate it when I find a page but when have too go trawling through the contents and there not clear on what subject the page was about etc.
There is a good variation too read from pregnancy to actually having your baby and going through the toddler stages.
After reading through a few pages, dotted about were Q&A columns where real mums & dads write in and share there problems and a expert from the magazine gives you their advice. I love this part of the magazine as because it was my first baby I didn't have a clue on what was normal and what was. This helped me see that I wasn't the only Mum in the UK that was having different problems and that their are other people in the same boat!
Also throughout the magazine there are lots of surveys & polls which have been done too show you all the most trendy and most recent items too buy through your pregnancy and your newborn. E.g. Pushchairs, Highchairs, Moses Basket, Maternity Clothes. This is fab as the worst thing when being pregnant is too shop around everywhere too find the most cheapest, trendyist place for your items so advertising the different things on here most definatly helps!
The magazine gives you advice in great detail on things like Breastfeeding, Labour, Weaning, Bathing, potty training, pelvic floor exercises. All the important things we want too know as a mother that sometimes we are too embarssed too ask a midwife or doctor. The magazine gives full pictures and detail on each subject aswell.
A particular magazine which i enjoyed the most was June 2008 Issue. This had an article on ' Your Body after birth - The naked truth'. This is where five mums shared how they felt about there post-birth naked bodies. They also had a photo of each of them naked so you could see that your not alone and other mums do actually look the same as you. They each what they didn't like about themselves and what they did. How they lost weight and how some couldnt lose weight. Weight is such a big issue for women at the moment with all the silly media exaggerating how fast celebs lose their weight which isn't a normal thing to do.
In my opinion I would definatly recommend this too any mother or even dad too have a flick through if your in doubt of anything as it will definatly put your mind at rest and there is such a variety of things too ready about.
Summary: Fab magazine for any mother pregnant or in toddler stages
