Advantages: Great for first timers and news about new products. Most are aimed at Mums and Dads now.

Disadvantages: Not much to interest an experienced parent. Not many mags for parents of young babies that are past needing the pregnancy stuff.

Do you really need to buy these mags?

Well the first time I became pregnant I spent 9 months buying them all. I was all ready a trained nursery nurse so I knew all the baby stuff but my course didn't really cover pregnancy. I had no friends that had had kids yet so I found the mags invaluable. It was through reading them that I could reasure myself what was normal and what wasn't. I read up on C Sections as I knew that if I had problems during labour I would perhaps need one. I used the articles to talk my husband through the procedure and what it involved.
I had a difficult last 3 months of labour and a 48 hour labour ending in a C Section. I went in hoping for a float in the pool and a few puffs of gas and air. I was glad I knew to keep my options open and I knew a bit abought all the drugs and procedures they carried out.

Second time around I felt the mags weren't really much use I had kept alot of the articles on pregnancy so I just refered to these. As a experienced mum I didn't need a 4 page step by step guide on how to change a baby or to be told what to pack in my nappy bag. I wanted the articles on new products, holiday ideas and advice on dealing with a toddler and a baby but alot of the mags are filled with stuff I just didn't need plus once you have given birth you really don't want to read about it any more.
