Advantages: All the classes of bike sport covered in one area, pure sport

Disadvantages: monthly, quite expensive

Launched in 1999 Motorcycle Racer is a glossy magazine dedicated to international and national (british) motorcycle sport. It's an area which has been largely ignored by the magazine market - the sports followers relying on articles in all-round biking magazines.

Motorcycle Racer covers GPs, World Superbikes and British Superbikes plus results from the AMA series, World Supersport, sidecars. There's rider profiles, paddock gossip, events calendars, race reports, technical features, historical look backs, circuit information....As a monthly the info can sometimes seem a little behind but that's better than the nothing we've been used to in the past!

There's some great action shots and the interviews are very welcome - providing a great personal edge to the sport. They give an interesting insight into the world of motorcycle racing interviewing riders, managers and giving behind-the-scenes features.

The first layouts were prone to being garish - there were a few incredibly loud graphics which seem to have been addressed so every issue is that bit easier on the eye!

If you have an avid interest in motorcycle racing this magazine will keep you entertained in the days between races; if you're new to motorcycle racing looking to catch up with who, where and when this is a good starting point.
