Formula 1 has become one of the most televised sports in recent years together with one of the most glamorous and highly paid. It wasn't always that way though.

Motor Sport has been covering the sport with entertaining and informed reports for the past 50 years and was, at one time, required reading for the racing aficionado.

The magazine has been through a complete facelift over the past couple of years and the result is excellent. If you are interested in reading about the history of the sport together with interesting articles and informed comment about the current scene then this is an excellent choice and makes a good monthly complement to its weekly sister journal, Autosport.

A lot of emphasis is placed on historic racing together with articles on drivers, cars and the technology of a bygone era but it is done in a very readable and interesting way. I usually read it from cover to cover within a couple of days of it arriving. The quality of both the magazine itself and of the content, journalistic and photographic, is first class. I would recommend it to anyone.

‘Don’t miss’ articles include Simon Taylor’s balanced and informed column on current affairs, Nigel Roebuck’s column, ‘Legends’ which is generally much more objective and less opinionated than his ‘Fifth Column’ in Autosport. Other regular features that make interesting reading include ‘The worst car I ever drove’ and Bill Boddy’s column.
