I love glossy magazines, celebrity gossip and the likes...ok I admit it. Yes its pretty pointless reading lets be honest about it but with a nice cuppa and a bar of chocolate its a nice, relaxing read that you don't need a degree to read through!
New! is a magazine I buy often. Sure if you look at other magazines on the shelf it covers most of the same celebrity news and so on but for me this is a top magazine because of the layout.
I'm sat here now with a September issue I bought yesterday. Its quite thick this edition with 83 pages to it. What I like about New! is there isn't all that much avertising within it and what there is is places like Morrisons baby products on offer and yogurts, affordable things not Gucci and Chanel and things the majority of us can't afford!
So what do you get in New?
Upon opening it you get the editor letter you see in most magazines of this type and an at a glance content list. Then we move on to lots of celebrities papped, a style section and someone rating the celebrities dress sense, then stories of celebrities and what they up to. Chantelle Houghton writes a page of her opinions and filling us in on her life, theres lots of news on the now ended Celebrity Big Brother and some Towie stories (personally I skip all that!), we are shown who is now dating who, this week Peter Andre telling us about his new younger girlfriend and nice photographs and Amy Childs man half naked talking about his romance with her.
Once again kate Middleton features highly with fashion pages on how to depict her style from the high steet and a celebrity tells us all about her favourite beauty products. Peter Andre also writes a page of his news for the magazine and to break up all the celebrity stuff there is a true life story or two in every issue. Our stars are also included as is one or two competitions and we are told what to look out for coming up in the soaps.
All this is, is celebrity fodder in the main and I like it! I like the numerous photographs of celebrities at their best and worst and its a light, easy read that never takes above an hour for me but whilst I read it I chill and enjoy. It is what it is a womans magazine really aimed at the over 20's and I like it so there!
New is my favourite celebrity magazine.
For a start i am pretty sure it is the cheapest on the market at 95p. Heat, Closer and Now are all around the £1.30/40 mark.
Secondly it has a good mix of celebrity gossip, columns by celebrities, fashion, diet stuff, real life stories and what's on TV.
It comes out every week on a Tuesday and can be bought in pretty much every newsagents or supermarket. It usually has about 90 pages which is probably a tiny bit thinner than the other celeb magazines but i find that many magazines in particular Heat, which i used to love, have far too many advertisements.
The celebrities who have columns at the moment are Amy Childs from the Only Way Is Essex and Peter Andre. Up until a few weeks ago Natalie Cassidy also had a column which focused on her becoming a first time mother.
I bought a copy today and on the front page is Lily Allen's wedding, Lucy from the Only Way Is Essex talking about how she kissed Mark who is also from the Only Way Is Essex and is engaged (scandal) and a picture of Danni Minogue and her boyfriend with the caption ' Why it's make or break for them.'
There is a 10-page style section which looks at the latest swimwear trends, what the celebs are wearing from the high-street this week etc.
There is a page where a different celeb each week will say what she had to eat in a typical day and a nutritionist will explain how this can be improved upon, which i find quite interesting.
There is only a tiny bit on horoscopes in the magazine which doesn't bother me, but if could be annoying for those who are really into their horoscopes.
But for 95p you can't go wrong!
With any celeb mag, you have to accept that no literacy prizes are going to be awarded...however, when comparing them, I feel there are huge differences in the quality and content. I buy New most weeks, even though my other half can't figure out why...(having said that, I have caught him having a sneaky peak on more than one occasion!)
I have a four month old baby and when I pop New into my shopping trolley, I genuinely look forward to when I can read it and relax along with a cup of tea. Escapism perhaps But nothing wrong with that.
The magazine features regular celebrity columists and at the moment these include Peter Andre, Amy Childs and Kym Marsh. They pass comment on what has been happening in the week but you find that they also plug things that are in the pipeline for them.
New contains so much content which is easily readable. I like this magazine because it's not cover to cover of adverts with scantily clad models advertising perfumes and such like. Yes, the bigger stories are generally about the same people...mainly Jordan and her current love interests but there's also alot of other articles about a wide variety of celebs both scandal and feel good stories.
Readers get a chance to write in with their points of view, with one reader getting a prize for their efforts. And of course, there are the horoscopes. These are pretty simple and are clearly meant to be taken with a pinch of salt.
There are always a couple of true life stories though these tend to be quite sad (family abuse) or gross (strippers who eat thousands of calories, weigh 30 plus stone and get paid ridiculous money for passing wind on mens faces?!) But there is no doubt that we love human interest stories...that's why they are in there.
In closing, I really enjoy this mag. With plenty to read, it makes it a worthwhile purchase...and in my opinion is the best of the celeb mags and also the cheapest which is a brucey bonus!
I only buy this magazine every now and then cause usually these magazines tend to talk about the same celebrity over and over, like Katie Price, Posh and Cheryl Cole.
However, the magazine used to be sixty pence, but over the past few years it went to eighty but it slogan is 'eighty things for 80p' but i'm not sure if it does have eighty things in the magazine as it sometimes has less , sometimes more depending what issue you buy.
This magazine is sold weekly and a new one changes every Tuesday.
The magazine is more about celebrity news, gossip and interviews however at times it does get boring and drag on a little.
On the back page of the magazine it mentions one celebrity a week to talk about their favorite things, but that's kind of boring as it almost the same thing every celebrity likes. But you may have something in common with certain celebs.
This magazine also includes fashion and beauty so you can always keep up the seasonal trend and find out what's hot on the high street. Beauty also does the same, you can keep your make-up fashionable as well as your clothes!
It also has horoscopes, but they aren't actually true even though an expert is explaining them.
Personally, this magazine is not worth buying every week as it can be too expensive and also if the magazine isn't that good that week it's a waste of a pound almost. But they do have some good issues (these are the ones I tend to buy!)
Product: New Magazine
How often: Weekly
I'm an avid reader of magazines, infact I buy at least three magazines per week, eek. One of my favourite weekly magazines is New magazine, it as all that I want in a magazine and much, much more. What's best is that it's only 90p, which in my opinion is a reasonable price, especially for all that it contains.
One of my favourite parts of the magazine is the celebrity columns. The weekly columns are written by Peter Andre, Kate Garraway, Kym Marsh and agony aunt column Dear Fiona. Each brings something different to their columns, an insight into their lives, kind of like a little diary. My favourite is of course Mr Andre who is very honest and interesting, his column as me hooked and is the first page I turn to when reading the magazine.
Not only that but the magazine contains, Health & Beauty pages, Fashion with the latest on season trends, the latest celebrity gossips (at the moment Cheryl Cole and Katie Price aka Jordan are strong contenders), Celebrity interviews, Horoscopes, TV Guide, Puzzles, Letter pages which are always an interesting read, Celeb food diary feature which is another favourite of mine, Healthy eating, Recipes and diets which also as advice from a nutritionist, Celebrities papped out and about and readers true life stories which are always a gripping read.
The magazine consists of little advertisements, well certainly not as many as some well known monthly glossy magazines which is always a bonus in my books. I don't want to buy a magazine only to find that half is filled with advertising on almost every page.
The only negative read for me in the magazine is the hot/not page. It shows whose on/off relationship wise, many are unknown celebrities who I don't recognise half the time, dull and pointless.
You can also subscribe to New which costs £42.00 for 50 issues and £21.00 for 26 issues, which works out cheaper than buying weekly.
New is a definite read for me which I totally recommend.
Apart from Glamour magazine witch i have on subscribtion, im not a big magazine buyer. To be honest i think its a bit of a waste of money to buy a magazine to read it once and chuck it away. BUT.. saying that if recycled and more than a few people read it than i spose they have there uses, esespially during long waiting periods for example on the train, aeroplane, at the hairdressers or doctors.
Back to the magazine itself, its good for people who are in to the celeb culture, obsessed with diets and the way they look, and dont mind loads of cosmetic adverts, Lucky for me i dont! :) haha.
For some reason i prefer Mags like these with celeb gossip in them, to those with stories about normal people. I think these kinda of magazines are very influencial on young girls and teenagers, and encourage diets and weightloss too much!
I dont think ive ever read through New Magazine or any simialar magazine without seeing at least two new diets, or quick promising ways to lose weight. For me this is a negative but for alot of people its the only reason they buy the magazine.
The good thing about this paticular magazine is that it is normally always under a pound, so a good cheap way to pass half an hour on the tarin if you like to be up to date with the best celeb goss, although the front page normally makes the articles seem more exciting than they are.
Those of you who are a regular readers of my reviews , will probably have noticed that I am a massive magazine fan. I read a lot of magazines from teen ones to womens ones , celeb ones to lifestyle ones. You can easily say I love my magazines. One magazine which I buy on a fairly regular basis is one called New magazine, which is a weekly celebrity gossip magazine which sells for 80p although just recently I have started buying it a pack along with three other magazines ( OK , OK! USA and Star magazine) for a price of £2.95 , which works out at a cheaper price than the price you would pay if you were to buy the magazines individually.
First of all , one of the main reasons I started to buy this magazine was because of the price , at the time it was just 60p , (but it has now gone up (like everything else) to 90p.) and I think that is a fantastic price to pay for something so entertaining. It is also a glossy mag which just makes it more appealing. One of the main things which stands out for me is that the magazine always features my favourite celebrities on the cover , such as Cheryl Cole , Katie Price and Leona Lewis.
There are lots of things I love about this magazine , especially the Celebrity features. I love seeing what celebrities have been doing on their day off , by looking at the photo album of 'papped' stars. I also love the news and gossip stories about the stars. Unlike some magazines , the news stories are not too long which make them short and sweet and they are always acompanied by great photos. The main story of this issue is about Cheryl and Ashley Cole's marriage , which includes a two page , photo album of their times together , as well as stories from other people such as an interview with one of Ashley's ex girlfriends who claims that Ashley cheated on her several times too. I love the 'Gossip To Go' section which features very short stories from the stars , I like these short stories as sometimes I can't be bothered to reach a page all about one celebrity , but here I get three or four stories on one page , so it's good.
One page which I am not overly keen on is the hot or not section , which is all about celebrity couples as the magazine calls it , 'who's hot and who's not'. I sometimes I enjoy reading this bit especially if the celebrities mentioned are ones which I know of and like , although more often than not , they are often celebrities which I don't really know, and so it doesn't make it a very interesting read for me.
There are one or two celebrities in this magazine who have their own columns. Such celebrities include Peter Andre , GMTV's Kate and Kym Marsh who joined the magazine a few weeks ago. I have a few opinions regarding the whole 'celebrity column' thing. Take for example , a couple of months back I heard that Kym was joining team , my first reaction was a bit like 'oh another so-called-celebrity jumping on the bandwagon' and thought that it was simply an easy way to make money , especially when half of celebrities with columns don't actually write them themselves ,they just put their names to it. Although , when I do read the columns , I must admit that I do enjoy reading them and Kym's column is definetely my favourite in New magazine , with Kate in second place. As for Peter Andre , when he was with Katie Price I liked him , he annoyed me a little bit but there was something that I liked about him , although ever since their split , I can't stand the man , yes I feel sorry for him , but on the other hand it seems that his management are trying to make him out to be the good guy , and we aren't really sure of the exact facts to judge who's fault or who's not fault it is. So with his column (which takes up two whole pages....he's not that interesting) , he brings up a story and says 'you might have heard last week that Katie said ...about me. For the record I don't want to talk about it' and it's the same every week , and so I think what's the point of mentioning something then saying you don't want to talk about it. Talk about something else then rather than waste a box explaining you don't want to talk about it. It would be ok once or twice but not all the time , and so for this reason , I do not like his column.
There is a tiny chunk of the mag dedicated to dieting , although it is isn't really about serious dieting. Each week , a celebrity is feautured along with a food diary. Usually I find such things boring , although I like this feature in this magazine as the celebrity gives a comment like 'I had an early start this morning , so I just had a banana' , rather than just listing the names of the food they had. I also like how a nutrionist gives their opinion on the stars diet , including tips on how to improve their diet.
This magazine has horoscopes which are something I love. I enjoy reading what's coming up for me in the week ahead. Although the horoscopes are sometimes vauge , they are sometimes accurate and so that is enough for me.
The last page is a good one. The feature is called ' My FavouriteThings' , which includes a different celebrity each week , where they discuss their favouite things such as their favourite foods/celebrities/places/things to do/food etc , along with a comment about why they like it and so on. I like this feature because it nearly always features celebrities I like and know and so for this reason I think it is a great way to end the magazine.
If you love a bit of celebrity-based-everything then I would definetely recommend this magazine to you , especially at such a great price. It features most things that magazines of the similar genre offer , sometimes more , and sometimes better , and for a snip of the price it's fantastic. As the magazine says on the cover '90 things for 90' , at 1p per 'thing' it's excellent value.
Thanks for reading

I am a bit of a sucker for celebrity gossip. However there are one or two magazines out there that rely on rubbish z list celebrities and lots of advertisments to fill there magazines. I have been a fan of new magazine for quite some time now. As i find it a thoroughly good read.
In the picture above it states that new magazine sells for 80p, unfortunately this is not the case any more an an issue of this magazine will set you back a very reasonable 90p. For this you get 83 pages groaning under the strain of celebrity gossip and up to date news from the crazy world that is showbiz. This weeks magazine is literally taken over by the katie price marriage to cage fighter Alex Reid. Now I particularly can not be bothered with Katie Price but love her or loathe her I have to admit I have found this marriage very bizzare and compelling.
Within the pages of this glossy magazine there are three celebrity columns. These I personally love as they are written by celebrities, and give an insight into the world they live in. The celebrity writers for this magazine are Peter Andre, Kate Garraway and Kim Marsh. I particularly like Kate Garraways column as she is very honest and amusing with her stories regarding juggling motherhood with her high profile journalistic role on GMTV. She occasionally divulges some seriously juicy gossip regarding diva celebrity guests. The other two columnists offer a degree of information in their columns, but I think it is Kate who is the most honest.
One feature of this magazine that I love is the readers letters. Many magazines have scrapped this tradition in favour of newer and more quirky ideas. However the inclusion of a readers letters page conveys to me that the magazine is indeed intrested in what its readers have to say. For those who do not have time to sit and construct a letter, they also have a small section on the letters page called 'u texty things' In which readers can text in short and concise statements regarding the showbiz news that week.
Not only have you got all these great feature but there is also a good proportion of the magazine dedicated to fashion. There is a great page in this magazine which displays a huge array of geek glasses (which are all the fashion at the moment, though heaven knows why old national health glasses have become cool.)
Just when you think there is no more that can be crammed into this magazine. You will find readers true life and quite harrowing stories. There are also celebrity interviews and even a delicious and tasty recipe section.
So lets be honest, this magazine is not shakespeare!! It is not going to win awards for its literary genius. However for a good coffee time read it is just fantastic. If you are a bit of a media mogul you will love this. It is packed full of juicy celebrity gossip and star studded interviews.
No i admit, most of the celebs who grace the covers of this magazine are not A listers. Infact this weeks interviews come from the cringeworthy Jedward and Coleen Nolan. But although these are far from the hollywood glitteratzy they are still quite light hearted yet intresting in what they have to say.
One thing I would say regarding this magazine is it is packed full of fantastic celebrity pictures. The quality of the glossy pages are excellent. It is also a pure joy to see a glamorous celeb being papped with no make up on and looking just like a normal human being. It really helps to give me a spring to my step when I see a picture of Amanda Holden wearing spandex pants!!! I almost feel like crying for joy. And it certainly helps with the guilt regarding eating that extra biccie.
If i had to sum up this magazine in three words i would say great gossip friend. You know the type of friend who can always provide you with the juicy titbits of gossip that will having you oohing and arrrhhhing in all the right places. We all have a mate like that, well this magazine is the literary equivelent of that mate!!
I love it.. stick the kettle on.... Im reading about posh's bunions!!
New Magazine is my favourite celebrity mag!
New Magazine is a weekly magazine which offers so much more than celebrity news and gossip.
Front page - pictures and titles of what to expect from this weeks magazine
1st page - contents and a bit from the editor
Main pages- lots of pictures of celebrities and their outfits which are rated. You then have special interviews with various celebrities and shocking scandals and stories of what they have been up to this week.
The Hot or Not page shows which celebrity relationships are going strong and which are on the rocks!
Columns - there are 3 main columnists in new! including Kym Marsh, Peter Andre and Kate Garraway. Each week they tell us what is going on in their lives, their views on the latest news and responding to any stories that have came out regarding them or their family.
The new! style pages keep us upto date on all of the latest fashion and footwear trends and there is also a beauty section detailing the best beauty buys on the market,
There is a page where readers can send in comments on stories and texts, The best comment has the opportunity to win a pamper pack which varies from week to week.
New! also has a few real life stories where individuals can speak about something within their lives.
There is also a healthy eating page where a different celebrity details a daily log of their food intake and it is analysed by a profession nutritionist.
Towards the back of the magazine there is a section dedicated to whats on television this week and what new releases of films are in the cinema and dvd chart. There is also a Dear Fiona page for readers to send in their problems and a horoscope page.
New! is released every Tuesday and used to cost 85p but i have noticed it has went up to 90p from last week. It is available at most convenience stores and supermarkets.
Can i recommend?
I love this magazine and find that it has everything i could possibly want to read. At 90p it is very cheap compared to other similar magazines that mainly concentrate on celebrities. My favourite parts are the columnists pages and the healthy eating information pages.
New! Magazine is a celebrity magazine along similar lines to Heat which is a much better known magazine. I'm not actually sure how new New! is, its probably been around for a long time but I only came across it very recently. Now I have to say that I don't normally buy celebrity magazines, the only time I ever really read them is if someone brings one in to the staffroom at work or if I am sitting in the doctors waiting room and trying to pass the time. However recently I have been off work after having surgery and a friend from work popped round with some magazines for me to read.
The New! magazine retails for 85p but if you buy the special OK! Pack you can get the OK! and several other magazines including New! for a lower price (not sure what this is as my friend had bought me).
The first thing that strikes me about this magazine when you compare it to the likes of Ok! is that it is not as classy as Ok! Now I know many of you will say that OK! is not very classy but relatively speaking compared to New! it is. The magazine is smaller and less glossy than the OK! magazine but then again it is a lot cheaper.
The magazine is produced weekly. On the front cover there are pictures of some celebrities (and some not so celebrities) and some headlines designed to catch your eye and make you want to buy. On the front cover of the edition I have which is for November 2nd there is Stacey from X-Factor, Ricky Whittle from Strictly Come Dancing and oh what a surprise its Peter and Katie!!
Inside the magazine there are lots of photos and some stories. You don't get any of the nice photo shoots that you get in the Ok! magazine which I do like. However for those of you who like some celeb gossip there is plenty of that along with some interviews. There are various photos of celebs out and about and comments on what they are wearing. There are a few pages of true stories, with things that have happened to "real" people and some pages of beauty and fashion.
Personally this magazine isn't for me and I wouldn't go out and buy it for myself even if it is only 85p. Its good to flick through but personally I like a magazine with something in it to read and tend to buy magazines like Red or Glamour that have better articles and more in-depth interviews with people. For me New! would stay on the shelf but for those who like gossip about B and C list celebs then New! might just be for you!
I buy new religiously every week because it is great value for money. It's only 85p and some magazines, such as heat and ok! cost nearly three times this and they are full of stories from 'insiders' that don't compare to new!.
Peter Andre has a column too which is becoming increasingly bigger as everyone is joinging team Andre! but is well worth the read and he is actually really interesting.
Like most magazines it has horoscopes and agony aunt pages. New! also has pages to tell you which celebrities are dating and where you can find their EXACT clothes if they have been bought from the highstreet at reasonable prices. It also has a couple of real life stories in, recipes and diet ideas.
I would definitely recommend this magazine... it has everything that heat has and more....and it costs only a fraction of the price. I think it is a great read and it keeps me amused for an hour :)
Im totally loving the New magazine and boy do i do some reading. I read every magazine out there and to be fair i wouldnt have been a big lover of celebrity gossip etc. But with New i find there is just enough without going overboard, just enough to give you that fix of knowing whats going on in the celeb world without feeling that your celebrity mad!
I find there is always a big interview with some celeb which i find lightheated and interesting to read. There is also a mix of other celeb minor stories and other true life stories. I love reading these also.
At the minute im also loving the planet pete pages , its peter andre telling us all what hes doing at the minute and how hes getting on with his kids and i think its great as it helps us all relate to celebs and shows in essence we are all the same and doing the same kind of job for our kids.
Dont want to say too much more as i feel im waffling and i feel that the best review i can give the magazine is that its cheap, it isnt too bulky and is lighthearted and fun and gives you that hour away from the world to chill out and relax and in my opinion thats what we want our perfect magazine to do.
New Magazine is great to buy when you have time to kill and some change in your pocket. I find that most gossip magazines have the same stories in them and borrow celebrity interviews from each other so I usually go for the cheapest magazine. New Magazine is one of the cheapest celebrity magazines and the cover is always graced by Jordan, Kerry Katona or Victoria Beckham.
I generally don't pay too much attention to the fashion pages in New! Magazine but the clothes they show are mostly high street and affordable. The beauty articles can be interesting but not as interesting as celebrity gossip.
Peter Andre writes a column for New! Magazine called Planet Pete, I don't usually like columns written by celebrities as they seem a bit pretentious. Peter Andres column however has something quite real about it, the column, well page really is split into sections and I particularly like his Pete the Parent section as he seems to have so much love for his children.
I am not however as much of a fan of Kate Garraways column, she seems quite self rightious commenting on celebrities she does not even know or who she has just met once.
New magazine is a must for anyone with a love for celebrity gossip. Every week the magazine never fails to provide an invaluable insight into the world of celebrity, fashion and real life stories.
Price: At 85p, New is a real bargain and is perfect for a quick celebrity fix when you don't want to spend loads. 85p is definitely great value for money and as the magazine is weekly, you can afford to buy it frequently. The price has increased a little over the last couple of years, but only by around 5p each time and is still very good value.
What's in it: Obviously there are different news stories every week depending on the goings on in the celeb world, however the range of features that are included each week are what makes the magazine such a good read.
Celebrities: As the magazine is weekly, with New you can get the most up to date celebrity stories really soon after they happen. I am often suprised at just how quickly the latest news appears in the magazine! Standard celeb features include weekly columns from Peter Andre, Kate Garraway and Alex Gerrard and I look forward to reading their views on the latest stories. Fiona Phillips also provides advice on her problem page and there are also weekly updates on whatever reality tv show is gracing our screens at the time.
Fashion: Often, celebrity magazines only have a very small amount of fashion coverage, possibly one or two pages, however, New's style section is often 11-12 pages long. The vast majority of the fashion pieces featured are straight from the high street, great if you are sick of some magazines thinking everyone is willing to pay £100 for a T-shirt, and you can pick up some great tips.
Beauty: There is also a great beauty section in new, giving the latest hair and makeup advice from experts. The best products are reviewed and the latest hairstyles explained. I have picked up numerous tips on which products to buy from this section.
Health: I am a bit of a health freak and love reading about new diets and healthy living tips. Every week, a top nutritionist reviews the daily diet of a celebrity and suggests improvements that they could make. I like comparing my own diet to the celebs and seeing how I compare on the healthy eating front. There are also weekly articles on current health related news stories, from the dangers of sunbeds to warnings on certain diets.
Real life: Every week, readers real life stories are also included in the magazine. These give a real insight into current news stories and are often very inspiring.
Tv/Film/Music: A common feature of most magazines is a section where the latest songs, albums, films and tv programmes are reviewed and New is no exception. The best tv picks of the week are reviewed, as well as the top rated albums, perfect for keeping up to date with the tv and music scenes. For soap fans such as myself, there is also a section on the week in soap world which is also great if you miss an episode or simply can't wait to watch the programme.
All of the standard features of a celeb magazine are also present, including horoscopes and recipes, however there are just too many other great sections to list them all!
Disadvantages: I honestly can't really think of any disadvantages...maybe the fact that the magazine isn't that thick could be a disadvantage as I can read the whole thing in one sitting, however there is so much packed into the magazine that, for 85p, you really can't complain. If you are looking for serious articles on political issues I probably wouldn't recommend this magazine, however for everything else New is perfect.
Overall a great magazine for a celebrity quick fix.
New magazine has been out for a couple of years and I've bought it since it was first published. It is the cheapest celebrity gossip magazine but to me, definitely the best.

As you can see you get a lot for your money. When it was first out it did cost 60p but at the time of writing this it is now 85p which I'm sure you will agree is a great price compared with other magazines on the market. There is around 90 pages in each issue of new! and the paper is very high quality with not a great deal of adverts which I find can often spoil a magazine.
If you've not tried new! give it a go, at only 85p you just can't go wrong.
Thanks for reading
