Advantages: Great features, price,weekly
Disadvantages: Not for serious reading
New magazine is a must for anyone with a love for celebrity gossip. Every week the magazine never fails to provide an invaluable insight into the world of celebrity, fashion and real life stories.
Price: At 85p, New is a real bargain and is perfect for a quick celebrity fix when you don't want to spend loads. 85p is definitely great value for money and as the magazine is weekly, you can afford to buy it frequently. The price has increased a little over the last couple of years, but only by around 5p each time and is still very good value.
What's in it: Obviously there are different news stories every week depending on the goings on in the celeb world, however the range of features that are included each week are what makes the magazine such a good read.
Celebrities: As the magazine is weekly, with New you can get the most up to date celebrity stories really soon after they happen. I am often suprised at just how quickly the latest news appears in the magazine! Standard celeb features include weekly columns from Peter Andre, Kate Garraway and Alex Gerrard and I look forward to reading their views on the latest stories. Fiona Phillips also provides advice on her problem page and there are also weekly updates on whatever reality tv show is gracing our screens at the time.
Fashion: Often, celebrity magazines only have a very small amount of fashion coverage, possibly one or two pages, however, New's style section is often 11-12 pages long. The vast majority of the fashion pieces featured are straight from the high street, great if you are sick of some magazines thinking everyone is willing to pay £100 for a T-shirt, and you can pick up some great tips.
Beauty: There is also a great beauty section in new, giving the latest hair and makeup advice from experts. The best products are reviewed and the latest hairstyles explained. I have picked up numerous tips on which products to buy from this section.
Health: I am a bit of a health freak and love reading about new diets and healthy living tips. Every week, a top nutritionist reviews the daily diet of a celebrity and suggests improvements that they could make. I like comparing my own diet to the celebs and seeing how I compare on the healthy eating front. There are also weekly articles on current health related news stories, from the dangers of sunbeds to warnings on certain diets.
Real life: Every week, readers real life stories are also included in the magazine. These give a real insight into current news stories and are often very inspiring.
Tv/Film/Music: A common feature of most magazines is a section where the latest songs, albums, films and tv programmes are reviewed and New is no exception. The best tv picks of the week are reviewed, as well as the top rated albums, perfect for keeping up to date with the tv and music scenes. For soap fans such as myself, there is also a section on the week in soap world which is also great if you miss an episode or simply can't wait to watch the programme.
All of the standard features of a celeb magazine are also present, including horoscopes and recipes, however there are just too many other great sections to list them all!
Disadvantages: I honestly can't really think of any disadvantages...maybe the fact that the magazine isn't that thick could be a disadvantage as I can read the whole thing in one sitting, however there is so much packed into the magazine that, for 85p, you really can't complain. If you are looking for serious articles on political issues I probably wouldn't recommend this magazine, however for everything else New is perfect.
Overall a great magazine for a celebrity quick fix.
Summary: A bargain buy!
