Advantages: ummmm, good for lining my cat's litter tray

Disadvantages: Mindless drivel, Couldn't find one article to hold my interest

...and that's being kind! I bought this on an impulse whilst queueing to pay for my petrol last night. I'd have been better off spending my £2.55 on a firework - at least I'd have got 10 seconds of pleasure from that.

New Woman is supposedly aimed at the professional woman in the 25-35 age bracket. Well, I'm a professional woman (that is, I'm a woman with a profession, my profession isn't being a woman) and I'm 32 - so I'm right slap bang in the middle of their demographic - this should be the perfect mag for me....

I couldn't find one article I wanted to read. This particular issue seems to revolve around your office party - what to wear, how to do your make-up, how to behave....all in order to get a shag, basically.

The entire magazine seemed completely sex oriented actually. There was a rather pointless piece which involved 16 "members of the public" who had agreed to be photographed naked (with strategically placed pieces of tinsel & baubles) and then these photos had been shown to a panel and they wre asked whether they thought the body on display was sexy or not. There were 8 men & 8 women and the photos were printed with a caption showing the percentage that found them sexy and the percentage that didn't. There were also two comments with each stating a "for" and "against" reason ie "Her boobs aren't really big enough for my taste". So what did we learn from this piece? Men like big boobs and women like muscles - BIG WOW!!!

Other articles included, how to make your own porn film with your partner to inject some excitement in your sex-life, suggested positions for having sex if you've got a hangover (after your office Christmas party presubmably), a betting slip to run a sweepstake on which of your colleagues is most likely to photocopy their bum, or snog each other in the stationery cupboard.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'
m not a prude by a long chalk. I've got a very good sex life thanks very much (well I've only been married for about two months...!) but I would like to see some articles about something else in a magazine.

There was a piece about a receptionist who had spent £144,000 on a cocaine habit telling how she nearly ruined her life, and the obligatory holiday reviews at the back. On the cover there was a picture of Tamzin Outhwaite promising an article about her, but somehow I realise I didn't even see that when I was looking through the mag last night so it must have been impressive.

The layout of the magazine is a little annoying, loads of little boxes with "www.newwoman/..." all over the place, promising you something and then leaving you dangling with "read the whole story on our website..."

I don't think I'll bother.

I'm going back to Cosmo!

At least I know not to bother with it. I'm sure I can find a better mag for the money.

I take it you were joking about going back to Cosmo - if that isnt all sex and how to ensnare men I dont know what is! New Woman can be pretty puerile - Bloke Jokes and Wierd Willy being a couple of the many things this mag would be best of without. However the fashion pages are good, and did you notice the interviews with the female refugees who had settled in England this month? Okay it wasnt exactly quality journalism but it doesnt pretend to be a serious mag. Cosmo has too many horoscopes for me, Glamour's a waste of space, Marie Claire's my favourite.
