Advantages: An entertaining read that takes very little brain power

Disadvantages: Very little factual news and expesnive at 95p

I have a love hate relationship with the News of the World. My parents have always bought the News of the World for as far back as I can remember (or should I say my mum as my dad preferes The Sunday Express). I used to love having a sneaky read of it when I was child as it was full of sordid stories of politicians having affairs with call girls etc.

So once I had moved out of home I found myself continuing to buy it and 14 years later it's a habit I find difficult to break. I love sitting down and reading it over my morning coffee. The quality of journalism is pretty poor and there is very little factual news in there. It's mainly just celebrity gossip and pretty sordid gossip at that. They don't call it the gutter press for nothing!

These days I can pretty much take or leave the News of the World and sometimes go weeks without buying it. Still, if there is a particularly eyecatching headline I will still buy it but prefer to buy the Sunday Times as it contains actual news.

Summary: Great for celebrity gossip and scandal but not much factual news
