Advantages: Our children will be safe

Disadvantages: none

Being a parent I am always worried when I am out, after all we are told and we read such vile and curupt stories we dare not move our eyes away from our children even for an instant, the News of the world, if now and again a little miss guided, is trying to make us all a little bit more aware of the community around us,a paedophile can see where our children are but we apparently have no right to see where he/she is... why? We are not all vigilantes and the people who cause riots will do it anyway whether it be to a paedophile or homosexual or coloured person or even just because you don't look right, there has always been and will always be vigilante mobs and frankly the paedophiles have more than enough police protection.Perhaps if you had to register somewhere befor you found out where and who they are it would make policing easier either way we and many other parents heaved a sigh of relief when the News of the world took this campaign to heart.I do not condone violence of any kind but I feel we parents, grandparents and the public as a whole, deserve to know where the paedophiles are.Thankyou to the News of the world for such a worthwhile campaign.

I agree with the 3 comments below. Consider the innocent people, hounded out of their homes because of mis-taken identities, naming and shaming didn't help them much did it?

A dangerous campaign, by a paper with only one agenda - circulation figures. I am a mother, and naming and shaming is perhaps the worsed tactic to take, as it will lead to some paedophiles not registering for fear of "mob justice". Surely the authorities will have concidered this option, and I would rather that they know exactly where they all are, rather than the public knowing where a few are. We live for the most while, in a civilised society, and it is a disppointment when such a terrible subject is whipped up out of all proportion by a paper with its own interest at heart, and not seeming to care about the results of its actions.

I agree with necropolis, I can so nothing positive about the name and shame campaign, and I really believe that the paper only did it to take advantage of a situation, boost circulation and make money.
