My theory is that if it DOES affect me I will hear about it anyway! There is a section of photos of stuff going on in the community, and for a city as big as Plymouth it's sad that all they seem to put up are pics of kids with facepaint on - boring! The letters page always seems to be the domain of old people whining, and really the only good bit is the ads section. Yes, you can list thing...more

Premium Review The Herald (Plymouth): The Evening Herald that has nothing to herald (327 words)

The Evening Herald is Plymouth's premier newspaper and I hate it! I NEVER buy a copy, as it goes against everything I think is proper and good; let me tell you why! To begin with, the stories in our locality are not 'real news'. What I mean by that is they aren't interesting or important (99% of the time anyway). Most of the articles will be about a new building being designed in the city centre, or about ASBOs being given out to council estate kids. I just don't get a kick out of this sort of stuff at all - unless it affects me directly I couldn't give a (insert expletive here) about local news. The Herald Express - The Voice of Torbay This is a great local paper, it costs 37p and is published six days per week, Monday to Saturday. It covers a large area of South Devon, primarily Torbay but also Teignbridge and the South Hams. It carries all the topics you would expect in a local paper; stories from local schools, topical news e.g. the effects of the current economic situation, classified ads etc. There are regular features on certain days, on Tuesdays there is a section called "Bygones" which uses archive photographs and stories from all eras of the 20th century. Tuesdays also has a supplement on property rentals but ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Herald (Plymouth): EVENING HERALD-PLYMOUTH (172 words)

THE EVENING HERALD This has to be one of the best local newspapers ever! It has always got really big stories on the frontpage and has you attention gripped! I think the paper is keeps you really informed and they have certain days designated to certain topics - for instance thursday is homeseeker day where all the houses for sale are. On wednesday it is job day - it really is good because you know exactly where you are. When travelling to other parts of the country - i have compared other local newspapers and some are dam right boring, but the Evening Herald is colourful, informative and you never get bored with what is written in there. I think ...  Read the complete review
