Advantages: Good reveiws, cheap

Disadvantages: Not in depth enough

The NME has given itself the tltle of Britains number one music magazine, Mmmmmm, slightly debatable if you consider that most of the people who buy it (stingy students)) cant afford the chunkier, pricier rivals Q and Word. So basically theyve got nothing to compare it to, so yes im sure in their eyes it is a gift the hip and happening heavens!

If your into indie/alternative music (which i am) NME is a nice buy every now and again as its only £1.95 and has a really extensive reviews section of albulms and singles every week. There is at least 4 or 5 interviews with both new and well known bands in every issue, which sounds like quite a lot but what i always find is that even if the interveiw is 3 pages, most of it is taken up with pictures and after reading the interveiw im left with the feeling that theyve only skimmed the surface or that i knew most of the content anyway. The live band reveiw section is pretty good and most of the reveiws ive found resonate with my particular taste so i would go and see a band if they got a really good write up in NME.

My favourite section in NME magazine is the "Peter Robinson Versus" page in which the man in question interveiws or interogates a diferent celebrity every week. Now i say that horrid word celebrity, but in fact some weeks he talks to super-cool band members and other weeks he grills random rubbish celebs. You can usually tell which are which as he makes a fool out of the z listers in an original fall about funny way which is always a laugh, one of the highlights was nick from 'The Backstreet Boys' who was a mug for thinking he was going to do a serious interveiw with an indie magazine that blatantly despises pop music!!

The NME empire has now spread to include a website, club nights all accross th UK, mix CD's, awards nights and awards shows. So they have pretty much cornered the market for the young indie scene. The recent explosion of guitar bands some are calling New wave Britpop has ensured NME isnt going anywhere and if anything will only get stronger.

Summary: Cheap, cheerful, tastes like your back at uni
