Of course, that title went to melody maker just before it died, throwing in weekly poster supplements and so forth.

Unfortunately the NME isn't the great force it once was, what with the music industry currently being like a manufacturing industry... it's inevitable.
i like to read the nme, but i can't help but feel i'm holding something dying in my hands.... it is getting thinner isn't it? Not just in the number in pages, but the substance too - You could always rely on the nme to tell it like it really is, slag off the crap and herald the criminally ignored... but if it does sail too close to the edge, can we still trust the nme's opinion? Sometimes i feel the way it just lambasts bigger bands new releases, and calls it all rubbish, is just to stir up a bit of controversy, a bit of interest in the paper, as opposed to a bit of good old rock + roll journalism.
