Advantages: occassional good features

Disadvantages: price - £1.30!!!, mainly crap bands, rapid downhill ride with NME!!!

Long gone are the days when you can open a copy of NME and find some of the best new and old alternative acts from this country and beyond. In fact, the other day I managed to pick up a very old copy introducing Shed Seven to the world - now they wish they didn't exist, yet they were the ones that brought them up, so to speak. So, are they saying that they would rather let the world know about acts such as Destiny's Child and company than Shed Seven? Yes, that's exactly right. Soundtrack to the summer features the girl band - is this right? No!

Not only do they feature crappy girl bands and clubs that only trendies would be seen in (dead or alive!), but they take the piss out of alternative culture as a whole and are even promoting pop now. The price too is ridiculous - £1.30 for some sheets of paper - most only worthy of wrapping fish and chips up in.

So, what happened to Melody Maker in all of this then? Well, NME bought them out, didn't they? Is this to completely stop any news of great bands being emitted to the world? NME is crap and I no longer buy it, unless of course it is one of the very rare issues in which they feature great bands - Hell is for Heroes are in it this week!

What will become of this paper then? Well, I fear the worst, for today I spotted a townie with massive gold earrings, high heels, trackie bottoms and flourescent scrunchies buying a copy (Destiny's Child probably being the attraction!). I really would not recommend this paper to anyone.

While I agree that NME is plummetting faster than a Russian submarine, your Shed Seven comemnt tends to undermine what you say.

I was going to mention that IPC thing, oh well.
