Nursery world is a magazine I have read for about 32 years.

This magazine is issued weekly except for the Christmas weeks so 50 publications a year I am not sure when the first edition was published but the copy I have here for July this year is no 3926 volume 104. So that’s many, many years.
I became aware of this magazine when I started my childcare training and ordered it from the newsagent.


Nursery world magazine also publishes supplements on subjects such as training, nannying, and equipment.
Nursery world publishes Nursery world Scotland. This magazine has a Scottish slant on childcare and education focussing on the Scottish curriculum Scottish news and views and of course job and nursery advertising for the Scottish area.



I received this months copy as a freebie I rarely buy one these days. We do occasionally receive them at work and I often nosey through it. Looking at this months copy I realised it has changed little from when I first bought it .The ideas and content is of course updated but overall it covers the same areas of interest and information.



This magazine is a 35 paged glossy coloured magazine published on Thursdays for early years professionals working in care or education. I think it is also useful for parents not in the profession to read. It will give you an insight in to the Childs world at the nursery and has ideas in that you can use at home.

So what does this Magazine contain? .
Opening to the first page there is list of contents and there are advertisements for items such as training courses toy catalogues, aprons.
There are articles about child development, book reviews. An article for parents about settling children into nursery.

This month there is a special report about physical contact this is an area we are all concerned with, of course we want to protect your children from innnapropriate contact but your child needs a nap
py change needs male staff are not allowed to change nappies in my place of work, so guess who gets all the S***** work? A child wants a cuddle when they fall over. This is an excellent report covering this delicate area.
There are ideas for activities, Articles on nutrition, this month ideas for projects on eyes. These ideas help nursery workers in getting ideas for the early years curriculum, preparing the child for school.
Nursery world does contain a few adverts there are the job adverts I remember looking through these when training looking at the nanny jobs maybe there would be that wonderful job in a rich family maybe abroad with well behaved children, perfect parents paying me a fortune where I would meet the rich handsome cousin who would sweep me of my feet. (Oh come on my name is Mary after all and my parents did call me Mary Pippins affectionately teasing.) Jobs I noticed this month pay£150 – 400 pounds a week most with board and lodging.

There are other childcare jobs advertised her as well as the Mary Poppins jobs. Private nurseries and public nurseries some in the education authorities some in social services.
There are adverts for equipment not many, but I do like the look of that nursery gym.
So there you have it. Nursery world is a good magazine; if you are thinking of entering the world of childcare it gives useful information and the cost is… £1.30p a week you can subscribe at cheaper rates students 1-year 50 issues is only £44.
There is a web site www.nursery-world.com. About the magazine and with details of free issues and subscriptions if you have the care of littlies have a look it’s worth it.
