Advantages: It is THE best magazine!
Disadvantages: Only comes out once a month!
If you are wondering 'Why the hell call a magazine NYLON?!' I can explain this to you. 'NY' stands for New York and 'LON' for London. There, that's that sorted. Even though the offices of NYLON are based in New York City the magazine covers the scene from London and they seem to know more hip things that are happening in our country than we do! The magazine is very refreshing, stylish and sophisticated, yet pop and casual enough. The fashion spreads are wonderful thanks to supermodel Helena Christensen, who is the creative director of the magazine. The articles are great and feature up to the minute people such as model/actress James King, No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani, Bush singer Gavin Rossdale and designer Vivian Westwood. NYLON is a fantastic inspiration for fashion stylists, photographers, artists and journalists everywhere since the ideas are unique and the layout is original. Designers such as Clements Ribiero, Miguel Androver, Helmut Lang and Betsey Johnson have all been featured in here and outfits are mixed with vintage for a personalised appearance. Even though this is a fashion and beauty magazine, do not expect it to have anything on losing weight and 'How to get that Guy before Christmas'. It won't. Even though this is a magazine with great articles do not expect the interviewer to ask Sarah Michelle Geller "So, how do you stay so trim?" and "Do you diet". They won't. Topics such as exercise, dieting and anything else that women really don't need to hear about all the time are not in this magazine. That would just be too ordinary for NYLON after all, it is an innovative magazine. Of course models are featured in this magazine but that doesn't stop NYLON from featuring people like you and me in it. As well as fashion spreads and interviews, Nylon also have reviews on books, films, music and travel. <
br> I used to think that Vogue and Elle were the best things to read......I was SO wrong.

- 14/03/01 My bit of trouser sometimes buys this (he's a fashion student) and I enjoy leafing through it - just because the US pic and layout style is different to mags produced solely in the UK. Cheap too! - content is a bit thin on the ground though. |
