Advantages: good reviews, latest news

Disadvantages: my dvd didn't work once

This magazine is a must have for all Playstation 2 owners. The thing that makes it stand out from the crowd is the inclusion of a playable DVD. This makes the price (£4.99) slightly more than other mags on the market, but for this you get, in my opinion a better magazine as well as the option to try games before you buy them.

The magazine is divided into various sections. The first of these is a summary of the DVD including instructions for the demos. The news section keeps you up to date with the latest rumours, games in early development and charts as well as updates from other territories. This section is one of my favourites as it keeps you up to date with the latest innovations currently surfacing in Japan.

There is then a more detailed section focusing on a few games in development as well as some interviews with production teams. One criticism I have of this section is that it is often a little too optimistic about these games in development and doesn?t really say if they look rubbish. I suppose that this is to be expected however as the games aren?t yet finished so bugs are inevitable.

Thankfully the reviews will state if a game is below par. Reviews vary in size from a few pages for eagerly anticipated blockbusters to half pages for other releases. The reviewers tend to write in an entertaining style whilst still getting across the important points. This makes the magazine entertaining as well as informative.

For those new to the magazine there is a reviews database with small summaries of each game reviewed. I would also like to see this included on the DVD as then they would be able to include a bit more info on the titles.

The tips section will be of great use to those stuck on games. It covers walkthroughs of the latest titles as well as cheats and a clinic for your gaming problems.

The DVD features videos of the latest games as well as the playable demos. The numbers of playable demos h
as increase over recent months with the average now around 6-7.

One problem I have had is with a DVD. A demo wouldn?t work so I emailed the publishers. Unfortunately they did not reply.

As if this was not enough this months DVD has a Metal Gear Solid 2 playable demo. An essential purchase as this is quite simply the greatest piece of entertainment ever.

I found that on the PS1 it was a good way of getting games: I often never played more than the first few levels, so being the demo version didn't make much difference to me!
