Advantages: lots of pics

Disadvantages: too many pics

OK is a magazine that sells 25 million copies per year. It is a big, glossy mag that contains hundreds of photos of celebrities. It prides itself on being the 'first for celebrity weddings', and the most recent issue has Jade Goody's exclusive wedding pics in it. Again, I'm not the target audience for this sort of mag (being a male) but I happened to see my wife's copy on the sofa and thought it would be interesting to review.

Coming in at a huge 146 pages, the magazine is broken into 4 areas:

NEWS: The value of the so called 'news' in this mag is questionable, but if you are turned on by the idea of seeing photos of Katie and Peter out jogging, then this is the mag for you. Basically, any celeb spottings are found in this section, with hardly any writing. There is no focus on 'real' news, in the traditional sense, so don't make that mistake!

FEATURES: This is where you'll find the cover stories, such as Jade's weddings. Many of the stories are exclusives, and all include a brief editorial. Again, they're all celebrity focused, and you can find around 5 or 6 stories in this section.

FASHIONISTA: This section revolves mostly around model photography of the latest designer wear. I personally find nothing more boring, but then I'm not the target audience am I? If you're in the price bracket (from £30 to £200 on average) then this section will give you topical ideas of what to buy.

REGULARS: Here you can find puzzles, problem pages, gossip, stars and a travel section.

MY VERDICT:
At £2.95 weekly, this mag is very pricey. In terms of most of its features, it contains little that a cheap mag like Love It doesn't have, except for the plethora of photos, and the occasional exclusives. If you're someone who likes pictures more than words, then this is certainly something good to flick through, but for those who like to read a bit more than 20 words, a different mag will be better. Finally, they only focus on celebrities in this one, so those who enjoy real life horror stories from the public will need to go elsewhere.

Summary: don't bother

This is what I call a 'waiting room' magazine - all right for flicking through while you are waiting to see the doctor/dentist/hairdresse r. Good review.
