Advantages: Great quslity photos, good fashion features.
Disadvantages: Article are not so exclusive anymore, expensive to buy, to many reality TV stars
I have reviewed a couple of magazines on Dooyoo in the past (Heat and More) I buy these on a fairly regular basis and enjoy the mixture of the content. From time to time I also buy OK magazine but because it is a little more expensive it is only that. I remember one of the first issues of OK magazine that I purchased; I was living at home and was allowed to go up to our local shop on my own to buy the Victoria and David Beckham wedding exclusive magazine!!! That was a few years ago now and here is my thought on it...
OK magazine was launched in April 2003, this was when the magazine was published on a monthly basis but it is now found on a weekly basis. It is the best selling 'Celebrity and gossip' magazine in the UK. I remember buying that first magazine and being amazed at the exclusive picture and interviews and that there was so much more content compared to that of all the other Celebrity magazines that were about at the time.
One of the recent OK magazines that I purchased featured Katie Price (AKA Jordan) on the front cover with details that inside the magazine you could find out about how she felt about her recent marriage breakdown, the front cover also featured an article on 'Life as Footballers wag' and an that an interview with Victoria Beckham could be found inside.
As I previously stated I do only buy the magazine from time to time but I have found that is doe shave regular features, these include...
~ OK Parties - Found at the back of the magazine this is a photo section of various celebrities and stars at different parties for charities/ launches etc
~ Dear Jordan - A column by Katie Price detailing her week and a problem page section where she responds to readers questions.
~ Fashionista - This is pages which features the best dressed celebrities of the week, the latest beauty products and a celebrity shares their style secrets
Puzzles ~ There is always puzzles, crosswords and suduko quizzes for you to do.
The magazine is full of glossy photos which I have to admit, no matter what the celebrity, whether I am interested in them or not, the photos are always fantastic. The photos used vary from full page to half pages and are very easy to browse through. I have found that with buying the magazine throughput the years that although the quality has not changed the content has.
I think the magazine is now full of to many 'Big Brother' contestants other reality TV stars, which I do not mind seeing the odd article about them but not page after page. There is also a large American section in the OK magazine where I have to admit that I have not heard about a lot of the celebrities that I am reading about. I also do not like the fact that one the particular magazine that I was discussing where an interview with Victoria Beckham is promised that the article only really features previous quotes from the former Spice Girl rather than any new 'exclusives' There are a lot of other quotes used in the article from friends and other celebrity opinions but nothing really from Victoria herself.
The magazine does really rely heavily on Exclusives, whether this is weddings, engagements, parties of engagements, which is what the magazine is famous for. With stars now avoiding the limelight and reality stars craving it, the magazine is not the A list stars exclusives that it was once known for. I appreciate that Heat magazine features these same stars but it is also a lot cheaper.
OK magazine currently retails at £2.60. This price includes to inner magazines, OK USA and Hot stars which if I am honest really don't do anything for me as they feature people I have never heard of or articles that I have read before.
I have to say that I don't think I will be buying OK magazine again unless I see it advertised where there is a feature included that I really want to read. The price puts me off and some of the features found in OK can also be found in cheaper alternatives.
Sorry OK!
Summary: I will stick to cheaper magazines for my celebrity fix in future.
