Advantages: Good coverage of VW
Disadvantages: No idea what the contents are before you buy it
As a loyal Volkswagen owner, I like to read the occasional VW related magazine. I have found VWM to be the best, since it manages a better mix than the more flashy titles like Performance VW (I don't buy a car magazine for the gratuitous pictures of women draped all over fast cars) to the very dry Volkswagen Driver (previously Volkswagen Audi Car). VWM has a good mix of articles about standard cars mixed in with the stories about the modified ones. The Golf GTi unsurprisingly gets a lot of coverage, with so many owners keen to modify their's to get that extra few bhp, or merely to add giant wings to it. If you like Beetles, then this is the magazine for you, since there always seems to be at least one article about them each month. Personally I've never been that keen on them, and can't see what all the fuss is about... One annoyance with VWM now is that it is packaged in a plastic wrapper, so you can't browse the contents before you buy it. This can be a pain, since the front cover always has a list of the vehicles that are in that particular issue. You might think that this would help decide if the mag is worth buying, but you typically find that even the smallest article is enough for a car to be mentioned on the cover. As I drive a relatively rare VW (the Scirocco), I don't like to buy a magazine that claims to have articles of interest, only to find that the sum total of the article in question is all of 2 lines of text. This is a good magazine for anyone with an interest in all things VW, but it's not really the kind of magazine you buy every month (there are only so many articles you can read on modified GTis!). Not knowing the contents makes it even harder to decide if it is worth a look.
