Advantages: great helpline section we can all benefit from

Disadvantages: a little pricey

I thought I should subscribe to a pc magazine, just to help me improve my computer knowledge. Pc Advisor was the first one I came across to order that I liked the look of.
There is so much to read in this mag. And there is always help for those at all stages of proficiency.
I like the help pages, of which there are many in each issue, and also the workshop, which tackles a different job every few weeks. It recently finished taking you through step by step to build your own pc. I got a lot of help from December’s issue in the “workshop” helping you install a second hard drive. The reason being that couldn’t get my cannibalised pc to work until I noticed in the magazine that I needed to set the jumper settings to slave instead of single! It is surprising the little things that you can over look, and if you do nothing will work. If you’re going it alone and trying to upgrade, build or expand your pc, then this is an excellent monthly magazine. You never know when you’ll need the info in there, and I am keeping my issues for future reference.
There are lots of photos to help you through each task, and although you’ll probably get lost in sections if you’re a complete beginner, you’d be amazed at how quickly you’ll pick things up, and you’ll be looking for last months pc advisor to find out more about the latest pc subject you’re tackling!
Although there are a lot of advertisements in there, I’ve seen worse. There are regular competitions which you can enter online. There website is far from comprehensive, and the search isn’t too exact, but it does come in handy from time to time.
A regular feature that may appeal to those with more money than me is the buying guide, which is so extensive and detailed that you’ll find what you’re looking for. Each month a different products are judged on their merits against all the other brands, and you can make up your
own mind what to purchase.
In December there is a varied Xmas buying guide.
Other regulars are Software reviews, hardware reviews top 10 charts and a glossary. One great part of the mag is that you get a free full CDROM with each issue. Although I couldn’t get the latest one to work, even when I followed the instructions, as apparently there is a conflict within Quicktime.
Oh well, all the others have worked.
