Advantages: Quite Cheap (even on import less than the UK version), two disks
Disadvantages: UK edition looks better and has cases for CDs
PC Gamer USA This review is written on the grounds that this magazine seems to be appearing on many newsagents and supermarket`s magazine racks. This is the American version of the best-selling magazine PC Gamer. It is not dissimilar to the UK version you may be more familiar with in any large way, but there are a few subtle differences; It has quite a few more pages but the magazine itself has a smaller page area so the total content is roughly therfore the same given the greater number of pages. There are as with the UK edition usually two compact disks but they come in the rather flimsier packaging of cardboard wallets as opposed to the jewel cases. On top of this the reviews tend to be written more in the pretend langauge of American English and different games are given larger preferences based on an american audiences. Then of course there are games that appear in this magazine that are exclusive to the American gaming audience. The final difference is that in line with most American magazines there are proportionally more adverts than in UK magazines. *The sections* ~ The CD ~ This section gives a cursory explanation of all the game demos on the CD and how to load up the installation engine. It all states the system required to run each demo and the basic aim and controls ~ Scoop! ~ This section is dedicated to letting the reader see behind the scenes of the latest and best releases. ~ Eyewitness ~ A combination of news in the gaming world, previews and behind the scenes reports that are not complete or thorough enough to go in scoop. ~ Cover Story ~ Detailed Analysis, including interviews of the designer and members of the responsible team of whatever game is on the cover of the magazine that month. ~ Reviews ~ The main reason for the magazine. Detailed analysis of the recently released games. Each game is in a deta
iled fashion given analysis and then the highs , lows and overall are stated plus a percentage score. ~ Hard Stuff ~ Programs to make your computer run more efficiently often to improve game play and pieces of computer hardware again mainly graphics cards and gaming hand held devices. ~ Extended Play ~ Extras for games like add-on packs, extra levels and patches to fix bugs. Reasons to dust those old games off to get a little more value for money out of them ~ Column pages ~ Present on all aspects of gaming each one individual to a particular magazine writer. ~ Strategy General ~ The best tips and cheats around at the time as well as full explanations of games. ~ Letters ~ This magazine is very thorough and includes just about everything the game player experienced or otherwise could possibly want. it has a few too many adverts for my liking but then it is an American magazine and we must compare it in terms of its target market. If American buy it! If not then have a look and give it a spin it is still very good
