Advantages: Authorative, Balanced articles, Respected magazine
Disadvantages: New look
I have been a long time reader and recently went on their readers members panel to comment on the new look issue. The magazine is rather regarded as the computing bible and has been around for eternity. The jury is still out on the new look, but content wise is still similar. Available in a DVD or CD-rom issue, the latter which is cheaper but lacks software. The software can include full blown applications, utilities and other demos and games. Yes it is big and heavy and some may not like the amount of adverts present, but this helps to keep cost down and also provides a source of information too. Content wise is rather general, and not heavily biased towards PCs as with other magazines, yes the Mac and others do get a mention from time to time. However the new issue seems to be less detailed than in the past but with bigger photos. It is certainly a modern look and bright but I'm not too sure it retains the same authorativeness. This may be me getting to attached to the old style. Like other press there is a wide range of features and there is a good hands-on guide but not necessary the best anymore. News and reviews are still second to none though for unbiasness, Microsoft doesn;t always win!! I agree with most of the opinions and it certainly is well worth recommending for anyone interested in computing whether a beginner or an expert. In fact at college it was rather regarded as an extra textbook but much more enjoyable!!
