Advantages: a change from celeb magazines, some interesting & funny articles
Disadvantages: none really
My daughters often buy magazines & I usually have a good read in the bath which helps me unwind after a long hard day.
They tend to go for ones which focus on celebs which are fairly interesting but predictable as the stories are usually heavily publicised on TV adverts.
The magazine I read last night is 'Pick Me Up', dated 16th October and cost which cost 68p.
It has 68 pages & is has some weird & wonderful 'real-life' stories such as ''I ate 75 mars bars to save my tiny twin', 'a dog ate my nose', 'my smelly elvis made us famous' etc - a real change from my usual reading matter!
There aren't too many adverts, there's also a health page, bargain fashion & the horoscope & problem page which seem standard in magazines for females.
I think it would suit a lot of ages really & would be a good one to read in the doctors' or dentists' surgery, hairdressers etc as the articles aren't too long & there are plenty of photos to accompany the very short pieces.
£500 for your story... might suit some Dooyooers out there?
I'd attempt one myself but I don't have a story to tell & I'm not very good at writing!
There's a Jeremy Kyle double page part - 'he's honest, he's direct and he's only in Pick Me Up' - hmmm....
there's a sweet page with babies' & toddlers photos with captions & a pets' page with photos of animals which need a good home.
Surprisingly there's a 'photopsychic' page which is headlined 'what does the future hold for you or your pet? - just ask Pick Me Up's Mystic Mary'.!
What else could you ask for in a magazine eh?
summary
~
- for 68p this seems like an economical publication which contains very light reading to pass the time.
- there are some very sad pieces but also some surprising & shocking articles.
- a change from celeb ones.
- I wouldn't subscribe to Pick Me Up but would read again depending on what it tells m on the cover.
Summary: leightweight reading
