Advantages: Real life stories, lots of competitions, great price, sold each week.
Disadvantages: None
Pick Me Up is a magazine whose tagline is 'More real life for your money' and at just 68p per week for a 67 page magazine (on average) it really is fantastic value with you paying around 1p per page.
The magazine contains real life stories, fashion for high street prices, competitions, puzzles, photographs sent in etc.
There are always many stories to read in the magazine and some of them are very random such as 'My baby's birthmark burst' and 'Arrested because I won £30k on the lottery' and there is usually at least one story that has been covered in the press or newspaper over recent months and this weeks story is 'killed at the checkout' where a woman is speaking about how her partner was killed in a case of mistaken identity.
There are many competitions dotted throughout the magazine with a wide variety of prizes including cash, games consoles, holidays etc and these change from week to week as do the puzzles & competitions you are required to complete in order to enter. Entry can be via post, phone, email etc so it's very easy to enter and doesn't even have to cost you anything more than the cost of the magazine.
I find this magazine to be a very interesting read, there is just the right mix between light hearted and serious articles to keep me occupied and while some of them are spread over 2 or even 3 pages some of them are just 1/4 of a page and nice and quick to read while I'm having a cup of tea and a break and I usually find this magazine lasts me a couple of days and then it's never long until Thursday rolls round again and I can pick it up again in my local newsagent or supermarket.
The price is comparable to similar magazines such as Chat & Take A Break but this is always the one that I pick up because it's bright & colourful and I know that I'll always get lots of articles that I find interesting as well as competitions and puzzles that are easy to enter with lots of great prizes and while I'm yet to win so far I continue to try as someone has to win!
I am rating the magazine 5/5 I look forward to buying it each and every week and really enjoy the time I spend relaxing whilst reading it. The stories are informative and some of them are very tragic and it puts real life in to perspective for me and makes me realise that my problems really aren't that bad on the grand scheme of things! I would definitely recommend that you pick this up on Thursdays from your local magazine seller!
Summary: A fantastic magazine containg the right mix between light hearted & emotive stories.

- 15/06/09 I've only read this a couple of times - I think they had the quite odious Jeremy Kyle writing for them which put me right off! |
