Advantages: extra cash
Disadvantages: only published quarterly
You can make yourself a little bit of extra money by being published in this quarterly publication. Only subscribers may publish here so it does cut down the competition for poetry which is huge. You won't make a fortune but at least you will be able to call yourself a published poet. Poetry Now is well produced and interesting to read. You get paid with a free copy and cash or a recent Poetry Anthology. They pay around £5 for a themed poem, humour, or a poem based on a picture. Sometimes that increases to £10 if the editor stipulates special criteria. This is a quarterly publication and it costs £15 per year to receive. It is well worth the price. Write to: Poetry Now Magazine, Remus House, Coltsfoot Drive, Woodston, PE2 9JX for details of subscription. (Prices may have changed so check first before sending money.) When you get your magazine make sure you send as much poetry as you can for consideration. I got two poems published in the first edition I tried.

Buzby - 20/04/01 Although there is no payment for poems published in their books, all work published in the magazine is paid for. I think that they use the money collected from the book sales to pay for the poetry printed in Poetry Now, as well as to cover the £3000 prize money awarded in the top 100 poets of the year competition.
If you have something published in Poetry Now, they often pay with an anthology of your choice, so you can often get a copy of the book your work appeared in that way. |
