Advantages: Lots of information, reasonable priced

Disadvantages: None

I only buy 2 parenting magazines from the wide choice available, and Practical Parenting is one of them.

It is in sale every month and costs £2.10, which I think is a good price for a magazine containing so much real reading and not just bulked up with page after page of advertising.

Quite often, there is a free gift attached, and this month it was a large PVC mess mat which was covered on nursery rhymes.

The articles are varied and cover pregnancy as well as parenting issues. In February's issue there are articles on:

Breastfeeding: 10 days following the birth of her baby, a new mum kept a breastfeeding diary, and although it was brutally honest, it was done in a humourous way.

Tummy Upsets: This article was excellent, it is broken down into separate sections depending on your childs age, and give you guidance on when you should call a doctor and other methods of soothing upset stomachs.
It also gave you a list of questions to ask your doctor if you need to take your child there.

Morning Sickness: This type of article has been written so many times before, but there is always someone who will benefit from it, as there were ideas for taking the edge of the sickness, and also looks to kill a few myths.

My favourite section is The Pregnancy Diary, and it features 3 different women, 1 in early pregnancy, 1 near full term and a new mum, each one will have been featured since they were newly pregnant so you could see them developing and then finally with the baby after it is born. When I was pregnant, I found this invaluable as the women featured were experiencing a lot of things that I was, and it helps to know you are not alone.

As with most parenting magazines there are true life birth stories, and various problem pages, and I find the magazine well balanced for babies and toddlers.

Well worth reading, and who knows if you are like me you might learn a thing or two.

I could certainly do with learning a thing or two - but hopefully no practical for a while!
