Advantages: Informative, competitions, freebies, brill !

Disadvantages: It is monthly!

I bought this magazine after I finished reading my copy of Mother and Baby, and I needed something else to read. This particular cover grabbed my attention as it was the first one I had seen which featured a Celeb mum on the cover. This particular cover star is Jordan aka Katie Price, who is heavily pregnant on the cover. So here goes my review.

Prima Baby & Pregnancy is bought to you by the same people who produce the women's monthly magazine Prima. However, this magazine covers everything about pregnancy, birth and babies/toddlers you could need to know. The magazine currently costs £2.40 per issue, and comes out monthly. The magazine has anice glassy cover which is always nice and bright and eye-catching with features, competitions and a mention of each section it covers with a description of a relevant article underneath. This ,month, it says Birth: Cut Your Risk of Early Labour; Baby: Your complete Guide to Life With A Newborn; Toddler: How to Have More Fun Today!

The magazine has a nice contents page which is split into the sections of Pregnancy and Birth, Your Baby, Your Toddler, Health & Nutrition, Real Lives, Consumer and Regulars. There is also a box showing where in the magazine the prizes and competitions are located. Following the index, the magazine has a page introducing the experts used throughout the issue i.e GP's. Midwives, Nutritionists and Therapists. This is nice to know a bit more about the people guiding us in the mag! Then follows the letters page which is letters from readers of the mag, a page I take an interest in.

Following this, there are 3-4 pages of what is called "June News" (obviously the title of the section varies month to month!), and this is things important to pregnant women and new mums which has been in the press or the news. Also in this part is a lovely heart-warming section called "The Moment I Told Him" which is a short story of how a woman tells her partner she is pregnant. This has been known to bring a small tear to my eye! After the news in the same style is "What's New In The Shops", detailing new products available to us.

After this comes the "Good Advice" pages. Pregnant women and mums write in to the magazine, and the experts shown previously answer their questions with advice which is often helpful! This is usually around 3 pages in which about 8 letters are answered.

Next comes the "You're Pregnant" section, a 25 page special section dedicated to pregnant women. The introductory page has a few headlines of articles featured in the section. In this section is everything from pregnancy must-haves nominated by real women to intimate pregnancy problems solved, a page where you might find an answer to a problem you're too embarassed to ask your doctor about! It also features 3 pregnancy diaries, with 3 women at 3 different stages of pregnancy, one at 0-12 weeks, 12-24 weeks and 24-40 weeks. Then comes the "Amaazing Guide To Your Baby" which is a week by week description of what is happening with an unborn baby in the womb, featuring some wonderful pictures. Also, there is usually a big article seen on the front cover, in this issue its "Cut Your Risk of Premature Labour". Finally, there is a birth in pitures page, which depicts graphic photos of natural births...my partner ALWAYS skips this page!!

The birth stories come next, which is 2-3 stories of real births by real women, some normal, and some not so normal! I do love reading these stories, they are always love to read! After this is the 6 page special "Your Honest Guide to Life With A Newborn", a fascinating feature about the first 6 weeks with your baby, NOT full of lies!

Usually the magazine features a Real-Life special. These are inspirational stories by real women who have beaten the odds to have children, or are taking care of a special child. This month, it is "We Changed Our Bodies To Have Babies", 2 women who needed to change to get pregnant. Another real life story in this issue is "My daughter and I had our babies hours apart".

Your Baby is an 18 page section dedicated to, yes you guessed it, babies! This covers magical milestones, real mums advice to problems, articles about real mums, and usually a few competitions/offers too. My issue has 20% off at the Early Learning Centre! Also, there is information about a subscription offer for the magazine, usually at a discounted price from the cover price.

Health and Wellbeing looks at new medical developments for children, first aid advice, and advice catering to the time of year i.e. winter it would be colds, and summer it is looking after baby skin in the sun. Then there are usually a few pages on food ideas, with recipes, tips for fussy babies and a review on food procuts. My issue features a review of 3 different Ice Lollies, tested by a real mum.

Smart Shopping comes next, with products on test. This month is it pushcairs, which I found useful as I am hunting for a new pushchair! 10 different buggies are on test, so it is a wide test. My issue features Fun in the Sun, toys for your tot to enjoy outdoors, but I expect in the winter it would be indoor activities and toys!

At ht back of the magazine, there are free offers and competitions. Usually the free offers are for free CD's or books (you do have to pay a small postage fee), and the competitions involve you filling in a form to send off or phoning up to answer a question, but the prizes are good. In my issue, there is a chance to win Fisher Price niursery gear worth £200. Up for Grabs is a page of prizes up for grabs, usually 6 prizes, you do have to call a number to be entered . Prizes include Baby baths, bottles, pushchairs, carrycots and nappy sets. After that are the advertising pages, and the Last Word, a page article by a dad.

I would say Prima Baby is a fun, informative, great value for money magazine for all newly pregnant women and mums too! There is always something in there to help you, or of interest to mums! I will definitely buy it again, £2.40 is definitely a bargain for a magazine crammed with freebies, competitions and articles! You do sometimes get a freebie on the cover too which makes it even better value!

Summary: Great magazine for both new mums and old mums!
