Advantages: Intellectual, filled with interesting debate and challenging arguments

Disadvantages: Expensive

I have subscribed to Prospect Magazine for nine months after discovering it in the library at university and have thoroughly enjoyed this worthwhile purchase. Contained within each edition is a collection of essays and features on a broad range of topics, including literature, politics, science and culture. In the most recent edition (September 2009) the articles have ranged from a special feature on the financial crisis to an article on the development of new medical drugs. The broad range of articles is further enhanced by the broad range of different political alignments of many of the authors. The magazine itself appears to have little political alignment. As such there are sections which you find yourself agreeing with, and other with which you vehemently oppose. Therefore the magazine is excellent in promoting debate and discussion, and provides you with arguments you may not have previously considered. This is particularly true of the article in the most recent edition with regard to the war in Afginistan. There are also a copious number of book and film reviews. The magazine also contains cartoons, a crossword and word and number puzzles to provide a distraction from the many essays. In addition, the Prospect website provides you with excelllent access to the archives of previous editions. In conclusion this is an intellectual, if expensive, magazine, but one which is well worth the money if you enjoy political debate.

Summary: Terrific magazine for news, politics and debate
