Advantages: crosswords

Disadvantages: wordsearches

On our recent caravan holiday Claire and I developed a passion for crosswords, and Puzzle Compendium was the source of this.

This mag is basically a mixture of puzzles such as crosswords and wordsearches. It is printed on crass, cheap paper which gives it the feel of an old child's colouring book, and that annoys me. The amount of puzzles it contains means you're going to be using it for some time, so why print it like a throwaway item?

The puzzles themselves are a good level of difficulty. Of course, everything's relative but between the two of us my wife and I can complete almost all of each crossword. Aren't crosswords great? The way that completing one number gives you a clue for another and so on makes them the sort of thing I could do forever.

The wordsearches I am not so keen on; are these not really for kids? I personally feel it's a waste filling a magazine with silly puzzles like this, and have now tended to look for ones that specifically contain crosswords.

All in all, a nice enough puzzle mag, but only really suited to those who like a mix of puzzles, including the babyish wordsearch!
