Advantages: wide range of bands, well written

Disadvantages: none really

Q seems to be one of the better music magazines around. Unlike rivals such as Select, it aims for the music-loving audience rather than the teenage-drooling-over-pop-stars audience. If you're looking for an A3 poster of Fran Healey, you're unlikely to find it here.

If, on the other hand, you're looking for (usually) well-conducted and informative interviews with bands and other random people, Q can usually provide. It tends to cover a fairly wide range of musical genres, so if you're quite specific (eg. only into dance and don't care about rock / indie) then it's probably not the best mag to buy.

The writers tend to be a lot fairer than those in Melody Maker, NME, and Vox. Whilst it is inevitable that certain bands will be favoured, Q journalists don't seem to have as many irrational prejudices that are repeated ad naseum.

The layout of the magazine is very well structured, and it is easy to see at a glance if anything interests you.
