I don't suppose that ther will be many more reviews of this magazine as it ceased publication about 2 years ago it actually tried to kweep in production by changing in the last six months of its life to cross-stitch and cardmaking magazine, but I found that there was hardly any cross stitch patterns that I wanted to stitch and so I stopped buying it. I assume a lot of other people agreed with me as it only last a few more months.
However magazines are the sort of thing you can pick up at car boot sales and school fetes, so if you like cross stitch and you see some old issues of this magazine I would reccommend snapping them up.
There is usually a good mix in the magazine of cards and larger projects. There is always an ABC with a particular theme and usually a section on a prticular theme such as mythical creatures. These are great for using oddments of thread up and also if you want to make your own sampler.
The progects were usually straightforward and quite modern. They generally contained very few fractional stitches so were perfect for less experienced cross stitchers.
It is a shame this magazine ceased publication because I really enjoyed its contents
As a subscriber to Cross Stitcher magazine, I like to keep an eye on other publications - just to see what I am missing! There was a coupon for 50p off Quick and Easy and I liked the look of the Wedding Sampler, so I bought a copy. I can't comment on the quality of the cross stitch instructions as I haven't stitched the sampler yet, but the quality of the magazine is very disappointing. The number of typing mistakes and mis-spelt words is shocking. Don't they have a proof reader? It is not enough to publish good motifs, we like a good read as well! For £2.99 74 pages seems a little mean, especially considering the number of adverts. Some of the motifs look great but some more features, editorials, competitions and tutorials would definitely help. I suspect that a lot of the cover price is taken up by the 'free' gift, in this case a keyring kit and threads. Personally I would rather do without the gift and have a meatier magazine. Compared to Cross Stitcher it doesn't look good!
