Advantages: It lives up to it's name - the patterns really are quick and easy
Disadvantages: The patterns are so tempting that I tend to keep doing them rather than working at the bigger projects I've started
There are a huge variety of cross-stitch magazines on the market these days so you can undoubtably find one that suits your exact requirements. For me that magazine is Quick & Easy Cross-stitch. The thing is, I'm not that obsessed with stitching. I do it when I have a few minutes to spare or when I've got a long train journey and get fed up with reading (a rare occurance that). If I start a long and involved project it will take me months and months and months to finish it. I've got a couple on the go that have been hanging around for a year or more and the enthusiasm has completely run out. My normal reason for buying the mag is boredom, I want something to do now, while I'm on this train or because the weather's miserable and I don't feel like going out this afternoon. Usually there's a free kit on the cover so I can just sit down for an hour or two and make that, even if there isn't it's just a matter of minutes to find a pattern I like and get myself started. If I go for a quick and easy pattern I can have it finished within (at most) a few days and feel like I've actually achieved something, and it's great to have patterns that can be stitched in an hour or two when it's getting close to Christmas and you want to personalise a few gifts. Plus there are copyright free designs in every issue so you can stitch and sell cards or small gifts at school fetes without having to worry about breaking the law. The patterns aren't all to my taste - but the ones that I'm not so keen on still often appeal to my mum or my sister so I can still make use of the designs. There are often neat suggestions for new ways to use the designs and there is always a 'how to do it' section in the back so you can pass the magazine onto beginners without worrying that the projects will be too difficult. So, if you're like me and don't have the motivation to keep stitchi
ng all the time, but like having the option to do it for an hour here and there this could well be the magazine for you.
