Advantages: packed with charts, free gifts

Disadvantages: expensive

As its title suggests Quick & Easy Cross Stitch magazine is dedicated to simple, effective and quick cross stitch designs. The magazine is monthly and often has a free gift on the front such as a cross-stitch kit or accessory, this somewhat makes up for the rather expensive price tag of £2.99. There is a subscription offer which provides a saving of £8.21 if paying by direct debit or £5.21 if paying by cheque or credit card. There are also subscription offers for readers outside the UK for delivery via airmail.

Whilst the designs are quick and easy this should not distract the more experienced stitcher. The designs provide an excellent library of charts for small projects such as cards, small gifts and pictures, often with a seasonal or occasion theme. A nice touch is the number of copyright free charts they publish which can be stitched and sold for charity and fundraising of your choice. It must be remembered that the other charts published are covered by copyright and therefore cannot be stitched and sold for your own profit . As well as a wealth of charts the magazine carries a letters section, advice surgery, readers stitching stories, pen-pals list and, a good stockists and contacts section. The advice columns are very useful as they will track down charts for you or you can write to the 'chart challenge' section where a designer will design a small motif to your request - recent requests have included people wanting an Australian theme, for which they created a koala bear motif, and a request for a nursery rhyme theme, for which they created a motif of Humpty Dumpty.

This is an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced stitchers who are looking to build up a reference collection of charts of quick and easy designs which have a bold and modern feel . Stitchers who enjoy larger and more intricate designs such as sampler style kits and detailed pictures won't find their preferred style of project in this magaz

I agree with your opinion - although this magazine is described as 'Quick and Easy' it's still suitable for more experienced stitchers. The copyright free charts are one of the main reasons I used to buy this magazine. Thanks for your opinion - I think I'll start paying more attention and effort to my stitching again!
