Advantages: Looks great on your coffee table at Christmas.
Disadvantages: Any other time of year, I'm sure nobody else bothers.
Now then, hands up all those of you who ONLY buy this magazine at Christmas, because, quite frankly, your Christmas would be incomplete without it. Visit any house during the festive season, you'll spot the plate of assorted nuts, dates, Christmas tree and cards, and, oh yes, the ubiquitous Christmas Edition of the Radio Times, featuring ALL, yes ALL of the special Christmas TV listings! Excuse me, but what does everyone do at "normal" times of the year if you want to know what's on telly? Yes, that's right, we look in the paper, or on Teletext. Why is it then, that we all buy the Radio Times at Xmas? It's just one of those bizarre "English" rituals, which include things like spitting on a tissue or cloth and wiping our young child's face with it, saying the words "oopsy daisy" for no appropriate reason, and wearing a spotty handkerchief on Skegness beach. Having said all that, my father-in-law HAS to buy the Radio Times EVERY week, and calls it "The Bible". He uses it "religiously" (ha,ha) to plan the week's TV viewing, a week in advance. He will not even glance in any other TV listings paper, or look on Ceefax to check - the whole week revloves around the Radio Times!
