Advantages: inspiring... sometimes
Disadvantages: cheap and basic
I didn't realise that people actually liked this magazine!!! My mum used to buy it when it first came out because it had several competitions in it (all phone-ins) but the reason why i have an interest is because i did two weeks work experience with them last year just before the docu-soap about their publisher came out. Somebody told me that Real Homes has now been taken over by IPC magazines but i can't believe it myself. My opinion of this magazine is that it is a cheap excuse for a magazine... most of the articles are either bought from freelancers or made up using press releases and press pictures... they don't take much imagination to write and aren't very informative at all. If TV Quick is compared to the Radio Times then you have to draw comparisons between Real Homes and Living etc. In fact most of the staff at real homes have come from living etc so you would have thought that they would know what a quality magazne looked like - and this isn't one of them. Even though the pages and pages of photos of products can sometimes be quite inspiring, you could just as easily go out an pick up a FREE catalogue of the products. The magazine feels like a great big advert. Also, I find the celeb photos the ultimate in naffness and completely irrelevant to a homes and gardens mag. Bah, I say

gailmill - 25/08/00 I've marked your opinion useful, but I completely disagree with you. I really like the mag |
