As a relative newcomer to the world of bike magazines Ride has really come in and improved the whole genre.

This is no poor excuse to look at naked ladies bike magazine, this is intended for people who own and ride motorcycles. It is not crammed with 'bike porn' either. Almost all the bikes featured are factory models and most are affordable.

Road tests are comprehensive and tend to pit three similar models head to head. Used bikes are tested in the same way.

The editorial and production staff are bikers and they take bikes for extended periods of time to test them. That way you, the reader, get to know what it is like to commute on the bike, what it is like for scratching, and how it performs in traffic.

You get all the real things you need to know about owning the bike rather than a two page piece written by a guy who drove to the test track rode a couple of laps and then hopped back into his Volvo.

Ride is not a boys magazine. It covers riders of all ages and both sexes.

I would not think about buying leathers, gloves, helmets or security equipment before checking out the 'Ride Recommended' or 'Ride Best Buy' status. These guys test equipment to destruction on your behalf and offer excellent security advice.

Look out for the annual Ride survey. This is a huge, very comprehensive survey of British bikers covering the bikes themselves, equipment, dealers and insurance companies. Take part if you can, but don't make another move before you read the results.
